Q&A with Mike Daniels

Cheesehead TV brings you a pre-draft Q&A session with the Iowa defensive lineman.

From the NFL Combine back in February...

Q: What are some of the questions you're getting from teams?

Mike Daniels: "They'are asking about the way we line up in our defense, some of the stunts, some of the blitzes we do. Asking why should I be drafted. Why should they pick me up. What do I find important? What am I looking to get out of this? Obviously asking about my recovery."

Q: What did you have to go through in the offseason?

Daniels: "I just had to get my shoulder repaired."

Q: What was the injury?

Daniels: "It was just a little problem with my labrum, had to get that fixed up. It was a little difficult to adjust to. But everything happens for a reason and I'm just ready to move forward."

Q: What do you want to prove after all that?

Daniels: "I want to prove that there's more to me than just what I can do running, jumping and bench press and what I can do on the field. I want my personality and my character to flourish within the NFL coaches as it did with the Iowa coaches."

Q: How do you prepare for the mental aspect of this process?

Daniels: "If you want something bad enough, you'll be more than prepared for it."

Q: Playing in the Big Ten, which players would you say highlighted, either on your own team or other teams, that you went against and were like, wow, that guy was a real load to go up against?

Daniels: "I'd say Adam Gattes (Iowa offensive lineman) is the most difficult player I've played against in the last five years. And next to him would be David Molk, center from Michigan. Excellent football player and strong as heck––as you could see he pumped out
41 reps on the bench. And he definitely carries that over to the field."

Q: Are you a better fit for a 3-4 or a 4-3?

Daniels: "It doesn't matter. I just like playing football. So wherever they put me, I make sure I go 110 percent."

Q: What do you do that makes you a good NFL player?

Daniels: "Me being a student––doing whatever I have to do to improve in any aspect: speed, strength, explosiveness, learning the playbook better, studying my opponents, all those types of things."

We went from having a short supply of defensive lineman to a surplus. I hope Worthy and Daniels are productive players as well as Perry.

Daniels was a nuisance on the field at Iowa and their best defensive lineman the past two years. That's over Adrian Clayborn (1st rd), Christian Ballard (4th), and Karl Klug (5th). I've said he reminds me of DJ Smith last year. A little undersized, but extremely productive. I can't wait to see him in August.

His nickname's Beast for a reason. Love the pick. He really hits lineman hard coming off the LOS
