Practice Round-Up. Day 13. Sun August 20, 2018
The Packers practiced on Sunday, August 19, 2018. It was closed to the media and to the public. This was a very short practice.
Did Not Participate/Formation/Personnel Usage
Davon House (hamstring) went through early drills but that was it [not in pads]. Others who didn't practice were; WR Trevor Davis (hamstring), WR Jake Kumerow (shoulder), RB Jamaal Williams (ankle), RB Devante Mays (hamstring) and G Justin McCray (calf). Demovsky
First-string offensive line at practice today: Bakhtiari, Taylor, Linsley, Bell, Bulaga. Cohen
“They paid me a lot of money, and they never had a major salary cap year. … So we’ve still been able to add guys to the mix and have a competitive team. And from my standpoint, they’ve paid me a ton of money. I’m super extremely financially blessed and very happy. If we do another deal, that obviously is the goal,” Rodgers said. “I don’t think they would want to nickel and dime me, and I’m not trying to screw them. This is a partnership. That’s the only way this is going to work, and the best way things work in this situation is we’re in this together. ” Aaron Rodgers
RB Jamaal Williams is doing drills with a trainer off to the side. Sign his ankle isn’t real bad. Silverstein
Jake Kumerow made a late locker room appearance. Said his shoulder is still nagging him a bit, but he's hopeful to be back soon. Cohen
Practice No. 13 is over after 1 hour, 28 minutes. Has to be in running for shortest of camp. Hodkiewicz
Rodgers and No. 1 line playing all scout team. Should give you an idea who’s playing Friday. Silverstein
Based on this period, I would say the starting offense will not play and the starting defense will play, with maybe an exception here/there. Huber Rodgers and most of the offensive starters are running the scout-team cards during this team period. May be spectators on Friday. Wilde
Williams injured his right ankle. He thought Steelers LB Vince Williams “most definitely” made a dirty play twisting his leg. Seems pretty obvious. Huber
Jermaine Whitehead right back into the starting defense as a slot corner in sub packages. He was dealing with a back injury. Cohen
Aaron Jones is taking team reps with the first-string offense. Looks like the hamstring injury is behind him. Huber
Daniels taking team reps. Good sign for him. Hasn’t been on the field much this month because of quad injury. Wood
Actual Plays
TE Marcedes Lewis took contact from S Josh Jones a smidge before the football arrived, and he held on anyway. Lewis might not have game-changing speed, but he’s a huge target who has shown excellent hands. More than just a blocker. Should complement Jimmy Graham well. Wood
J’Mon Moore with an unfortunate slip as he broke toward the sideline. Allowed for an easy interception by CB Donatello Brown on a ball thrown by DeShone Kizer. Cohen
Marcedes Lewis and EQ St. Brown each with nice catches in middle of the field in team. Hodkiewicz
Offensive Line/Defensive Line
Byron Bell got RG reps with the first group with Justin McCray (calf) out. Probably better suited for interior than tackle. Wood
Lucas Patrick taking some snaps at center. McCarthy said they’d be moving lots of guys around this week. Silverstein
FROM ROB DEMOVSKY: Demovsky’s 1-on-1 pass rush/pass block drill record:, here are the results so far with 3 open practices left ranked by RPI:
It seems tough to see much correlation between success at 1 on 1s and the quality of play during the pre-season games.
Special Teams
Scott punted twice vs. rush from 50-yard line. First had a 4.38 hang and was fair caught at the 9. Second had 4.55 hang and downed by Josh Jones at the 2. Solid. Wood Scott punted 4 Times [in addition to the two above] for distance vs. the rush: 46, 4.72; 59, 4.62; 64, 4.79; 45, 4.28 Wood
Scott punted six times with the wind at his back. For distance from the 30-yard line: 46 yards, 4.72 seconds; 59, 4.62; 64, 4.81; 45, 4.28. For placement from midfield: 41 yards to the 9, 4.41; 48 yards to the 2, 4.44 Cohen

Some of the 1 on 1 results are surprising to me. I read as many tweets as I can for each practice (obviously). I had Looney at 4-0. Cohen and Andy Herman tend to report the results of 1 on 1s, but I don't recall Demovsky issuing any tweets. Clearly, he kept track though. I know that Looney beat Lucas Patrick x 2 and Amichia x 2, but now I don't know to whom he lost four times. It makes a difference to me knowing who a player beat and lost to, and also if the wins/losses came in one of the early practices or one of the more recent practices.
Bulaga playing RT on the scout team with AR and the rest of the #1s is significant and is great news. Also happy to see Bell getting reps at RG since IMO he has shown he can't play RT. Need to know if he is worth keeping. Cutting him saves roughly $700K of cap.
I am still interested in Reid or even Iloka, though I don't know enough about Iloka's recent play to really push for signing him. I just read a Cincy blog and they liked his play overall.

To be fair, Bell, Murphy, and Spriggs have a 21-1 ratio combined. That hasn't really translated to the field obviously. That said, I have a feeling Gute moves on from Matthews after this year.

Someone tweeted that CM3 has had some contract talks. No context, so I didn't know if it was an extension or a pay cut, or part of a trade for Mack.

How about an extended pay cut?

Our OLB's - Mathews, Biegel, Fackrell, Gilbert, Odom- are a combined 2- 25 !
Considering that our OLBs should be our #1 pass rush producers, 2 wins out of 27 tries is not encouraging. Khalil Mack alone would probably have 20 wins out of 27 attempts?
Then again, Bell, Murphy and Spriggs are 21-1 ? So......???

This is all very discouraging IMO. Spriggs, Bell, and Murphy undefeated yet are turnstiles in a game against scrubs.

Spriggs winning ALL seven of his one on ones? Was that at RT or LT? Or perhaps some other position? And who was he playing against?
It sure would be nice if he is progressing.

Taking 1-1 results too seriously is not recommended. Mark Tauscher has talked a.bunch about it.

Good news to hear that Bulaga and Aaron Jones are practicing with the #1s. Looks like Bulaga is on track for Week 1 and that Jones' hamstring is behind him. The appearance by Daniels hopefully means that he is on track for Week 1 as well. Nice to receive good news on the injury front.
If Scott's punting practice transitions to the field we should win many of the field position battles this season.
Great update, nice job again TGR. Thanks, Since '61
