Philbin Reportedly Set To Become Dolphins' Head Coach
Adam Schefter reports that the Packers offensive coordinator is set to become head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
By PackerAaron
From ESPN's Adam Schefter:
Filed to ESPN: Miami plans to hire Joe Philbin as its head coach.
What an incredibly emotional couple of weeks it must be for Coach Philbin.
The Packers will obviously need to fill Philbin's offensive coordinator role, with the most obvious candidate being quarterbacks coach Tom Clements.
Philbin was a holdover from Mike Sherman's staff when Mike McCarthy was hired. He was offensive line coach and was then promoted to offensive coordinator when Jeff Jagodzinski left.
Congratulations to coach Philbin. The Dolphins are getting an excellent coach and, by all accounts, an even better human being.

Aaron, who are the other possible OC candidates? Who would fill Clements spot especially with the signing of Nick Hill? How does this effect MMs QB school? Thanks

One darkhorse candidate for the offensive coordinator job is Edgar Bennett, though I doubt that happens.
If McCarthy does indeed elevate Clements, I think he could look outside for a QB coach.

I was wondering if Rich Gannon would be on McCarty's list for QB coach.

Part of me wants to see Clements promoted to offensive coordinator so we don't lose him but he's SO good at what he does now!
Congrats Philbin! Go kick some Pats ass next year!

Very, very happy for him.
This is probably the BEST thing for his family. Get out of the old situation, with all the reminders of his son. Get into a new location, with a new job with plenty of challenges to keep him busy and his mind occupied while the mourning continues for him and his fam.

Soooo anyone else liking the odds that Flynn is franchised and traded to Miami with this news combined with reports that the Packers have told Finley they want to get him a long-term contract?

And the drama begins to unfold... Makes sense now

I'm hoping Daniel Snyder and his loose wallet makes Mike Holmgren, John Schnieder or Jeff Ireland really nervous about having a fair shot at getting Flynn.

What about Wells? Maybe the Packers will put the franchise tag on him instead.

And the Flynn market grows by one. If Finley moves toward a deal, I wouldn't be surprised if we tag him after all.
Congrats to coach philbin and his family. May God bless them and I hope they will always feel welcomed in GB-Fox cities

Does Philbin take any other members of the staff with him?

Only if there are any left after the Raiders make their selections.

For what it's worth, both JSOnline and the Green Bay Press Gazette speculate that because Clements would want to call plays, he is not a likely candidate for the OC position with the Packers because McCarthy won't relinquish that control.
I see Clements going to Miami. McAdoo as Packers OC.

mmmmm, this is going to be a very interesting year in Packerland.
How many coaches, scouts etc do we lose?
Will be an interesting off season read.
Cheers to TT & MM holding this thing together.

Let's hope Capers is gone.
January 21, 2012 at 02:50 pm
That is absolutely dumb.
Just ONE year ago HIS defense wrapped up 3 out of 4 playoff games for us. And only ONCE all year gave up more than 25 pts.
How about TT get's him some DL and LB talent before you decided it's time to ax Capers?

Gotta agree with Bearmeat
. I hope we draft heavy on the defensive side this year. I would like to think we are well stocked with offensive depth and can afford a D heavy year. With some fresh blood, and an off season I expect to see the old Capers back.
