Packers Waive Makinton Dorleant

The Packers have lost another cornerback — but this time, by choice.

Makinton Dorleant, who was the Packers' "designated for return" player in 2016 after being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, was released Tuesday afternoon. The report from ESPN's Rob Demovsky states that it was due to a failed physical which anyone could've seen coming.

Dorleant tore his ACL in Green Bay's regular-season finale in Detroit after appearing in just four games for the Packers during his rookie campaign. Dorleant saw just five defensive snaps, however, played 45 on special teams in the limited time he was on the active roster. He spent the early portion of his season sidelined with a hamstring injury.

His release comes just over two weeks after he was arrested for disorderly conduct in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Coincidentally the same town in which Dorleant played college football.

From a hamstring injury to a torn ACL to a temporary arrest, Dorleant making the team's early camp roster or even being present for organized team activities seemed like a long shot. Even despite the dire need for depth at cornerback.

With Dorleant being waived, the Packers now have Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, Davon house, LaDarius Gunter, Demetri Goodson, Josh Hawkins and Herb Waters as the only active corners listed on their roster. Expect a few new additions via the NFL Draft at the end of the month.

It's news concerning the team. Obviously you don't care. Others might.

You are correct. Many of us fans do care!

If someone doesn't care, they can just skip reading it, and take a pass on posting it.

Perhaps Point Packer should start his own blog. That way he could write ad nauseum regarding what he cares about.

If you're referring to Dorleant's "arrest", it was for something called "interference" and the always handy disorderly conduct. Translation: Dorleant verbally objected to his friend being arrested. In other words, you can now be arrested for speaking to the police in a manner that they don't like. That's what is stupid, and scary.

No loss there. Hopefully, we're making room for real players. Thanks, Since '61

I was pulling for him. He had great speed and I felt that with a full season under his belt he could be a much needed back up.
I guess all I did was look at his "40" and nothing else. Our cornerbacks got beat over and over by double moves and speed. Shields could get beat on a double move but had the speed to catch up once the ball was thrown. I was hoping for players like s\Shields who was also an UFDA and raw the first year.
Oh well...

Hawkins has good speed, too (4.39), but rarely saw the field after he blew that coverage against Detroit. Toward the end of the season, I wondered whether giving him a shot wouldn't be the worst thing ever.
