The Green Bay Packers signed defensive lineman Bruce Gaston off the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.

To make room, they placed defensive lineman Luther Robinson on injured reserve, ending his season.

Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Robinson injured his calf on Saturday and was ruled out for today's game but didn't provide the exact nature of the injury.

Gaston is highly unlikely to be active for Monday's game against the Atlanta Falcons seeing as he was just signed, especially since fellow defensive linemen Mike Daniels (back) and Josh Boyd (knee) were listed as "probable" on the team's injury report and should play.

An undrafted rookie out of Purdue, the 6-2, 310-pound defensive tackle spent training camp with the Arizona Cardinals before being cut.

Gaston spent parts of September with the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins before being signed to the Cardinals' active roster in late September. He's been on Arizona's practice squad since the first week of November.

Although he's been on an active roster for six weeks of the season, Gaston has not yet played in a regular-season game. He played in the first and last games of the preseason for the Cardinals, making six tackles and playing in 41 total defensive snaps, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

It's going to be difficult for Gaston to crack the Packers defensive line rotation with Daniels, Boyd, Datone Jones, Letroy Guion and Mike Pennel also in the fold, but they had to like him to go outside their own practice squad to replace Robinson on the roster.

At Purdue, Gaston played in 50 consecutive games and made 44 starts for the Boilermakers, showing good durability. He was a captain as a senior.
