Packers Said to Be in the Running for Free Agent CB Darrelle Revis

Revis is reportedly seeking a deal worth $40 million guaranteed, making it unlikely Green Bay will be a final landing spot.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Green Bay Packers have been linked to free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis, one of the top players on the free-agent market, according to Jason Cole of BleacherReport.com:

During the tenure of general manager Ted Thompson, the Packers have not been a team to court high-priced unrestricted free agents.

If there's one reason to think that the Packers could potentially be interested is that they've already reportedly lost cornerback Davon House in free agency—agreeing to a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars—while fellow cornerback Tramon Williams remains unsigned.

The dollar amount Revis is reportedly seeking would seem to make it extremely unlikely the Packers would be in the running to obtain his services, at least the amount reported by Jason LaCanfora of CBS:

Recent deals agreed to with wide receiver Randall Cobb and offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga are not likely to leave a lot of wiggle room under the 2015 salary cap for a highly priced free agent.

Room also needs to be left for any other free agents the Packers wish to sign, which may or may not include players like defensive linemen B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion, fullback John Kuhn and cornerback Jarrett Bush.

A nice day dream to think of Revis in Green and Gold but that's it a pleasant day dream. Or a madden franchise with the salary cap turned off.

The Jets are insane if they offer this. But if he could play in Green and Gold then I don't care where House and Tramon play next season... Wow, that would be an instant upgrade at CB and would strengthen the D immensely.

Guaranteed money is king in the NFL. I can't see $40 million guaranteed.

yep as all of it counts against the cap, and any additional money. So he'd count about 16 million per year against the cap, or 12% of the cap for one player. a great one, but come on...
