Packers Safety Sean Richardson Reported to Have Suffered Serious Neck Injury

Green Bay Packers Sean Richardson is reported to have suffered another serious neck injury and will be lost for the season.

As reported by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Packers beat reporter Tom Silverstein Sean Richardson has suffered yet another serious neck injury which has put his season and perhaps his career in peril.

Silverstein reports:

Green Bay Packers safety Sean Richardson has suffered a herniated disk in his neck for the second time in his career and will be lost for the season, according to a source who was informed of the safety's condition.

The injury could spell the end of Richardson's career because it is a similar injury to the one he suffered in 2012 and required fusion surgery of the C-5 and C-6 vertebrae.

The Packers organization has always been very reluctant to take any chances with any player and neck injuries and now you can see why. Richardson was the one exception they allowed due to the less danderous location of the injury, but now it looks like he's back in the same boat and lucky he didn't  injure it worse than it is. Certainly, his NFL career has to be over.

Feel bad for SR. He's had a tough time of it. I think he'll probably hang 'em up after this.

Jean Fanor was the guy released before the start of the season. He's 26 years old. Don't know if they'd bring him back or not.

Best wishes to Sean Richardson. I was reluctant to even tender him at $1.54 million and was against matching Oakland's offer, but I am glad Mr. Richardson got a taste of decent money that he can use as a security blanket for the rest of his life. Always came across as a good person.

Condolences to the family of Lindy Infante.

RIP Lindy Infante. To bad he will be forever tied to Tony Mandrich. Every expert had him as one of the greatest linemen to ever play college. He was a really great guy and a smart offensive mind. Maybe just to nice to be a head coach.

Sucks about SR. Seems like a nice guy and a pretty decent player as well....I'd like to take this time to mention again that I think Twins should be banned for cussing a few of us out on that other thread and for also running his mouth about my son. Thank you that is all.

I couldn't agree more. But maybe it won't matter.

I'm pretty sure he has disliked my last couple comments haha. But seriously ..who looks at my pic and thinks that's who is posting. I mean my son can count to 100 and say his abc's front words and backwards. But to think a 5 year old can read and write witch such fluent sarcasm ...how stupid could one person be hahaha?

Seems he might be on the verge of becoming a playmaker. Doing all the right things and earning more playing time w/ his ST efforts and his snaps on D. Hope he can get better vs the run, which from the what I've read and seen he has been. Really Excited about his future.

It's still crazy to me how Elliott went undrafted. Either way, I'm happy he is a Packer.

He only started his Sr season in college and at a lower level of competition. Decent production, but not great. From what I was able to gather, prior to his Sr season at Toledo he didn't apply himself and didn't spend any time in the weight room.

But yeah, very happy Ted found him and gave him a chance. He's a gem in the making.

Actually, undrafted pass rush studs are not terribly uncommon. Historically, at least, you could put together a pretty damn good pass rushing front, using nothing but undrafted players. If you want to take Elliott, no problem. But let’s add…

DE/OLB – John Randle, James Harrison, Cameron Wake, Chris Clemons, Michael Bennett

DE/DT – Cullen Jenkins, Tommy Kelly

NT – Pat Williams, Ma’ake Kemoeatu, Gilbert Brown

No one would want to play QB against THIS crew...

Agree to an extent. Love Gilbert, but he's no pass rusher, very good NT tho. Would probably say the same about Pat Williams. Oh and Randle was a DT.

I certainly didn't say that Gilbert himself was a great pass rusher. I'm saying that I could put together a damn good "pass rushing FRONT" ... not just individual players. I believe that to have a truly great rush line, down in and down out, you need that immovable object to anchor the middle and collapse the pocket so that the QB can't step up. You can't just have a bunch of "run-around guys."

John Randle was so damn good I think he could play anywhere. I know that that Randle was a DT back in the day, but if he played today he's probably a 4-3 defensive end, IMO. At about 285, he's a little "light in the pants" to play tackle.

Randle was a little light in the pants even when he was playing. He's seems to have reincarnated himself in Aaron Donald, who also is a little light in the pants. Same exact player.

You certainly could put together a terrific DL w/ the udfa you mentioned. BTW Gilbert wasn't an udfa. He was originally a 3rd rd pick by Minn but was released very quickly by them. Their loss is our gain. :)

You're right about Gilbert being a D3... crap, how did I miss that??

(Hangs head in shame...)

Interesting comparison between Randle and Donald. I'll be watching him a lot on Sunday. IMO he might be the best DT in the league right now. Let's see what Linsley can do!

LOL, no need to hang your head. I almost forgot till after the 2nd comment it occurred to me.

Donald is easily the best pass rushing DT in the league. Not ready to make him THE best overall tho. Would have to think hard for a better one tho. Would 34 DE be classified as DT in this comparison? If so there's a lot more competition. Basically the same position, just different body type.

EdLaces, he appears to hold grudges and simply goes down the comments and immediately dislikes all on his grudge-list, whether he reads or not. He dislikes the existence of these commenters, not necessarily the opinion. LoL. He'll come back under new name....soon. Best thing is just ignore. He can be rehabbed though, and if he stops the provocations and name calling....I would welcome him back. I hold no grudges.

Exactly. Guys like this don't disappear. A sweaty and annoying little fat kid that no one ever really liked, furiously pedaling his too-small tricycle to Loserville, and demaning to be respected.

Yeah, you'll see that trike again. LOL. I think it's rounding the corner up in front right now....

Bernie the Baker/Ted Tomsin/Ted tWins/Ted Trumps wasn't the only one who may have contributed to chasing Taryn away (cough, cough). And that is too bad: Taryn was unique.

The Packers Org more than likely won't let him come back due to insurance issues is my take. They will pay off the insurance contract and part ways. I just do not see how they can accept him back on the team. A knee is one thing two spinal cord injuries is quite another

"I didn't know she had a pony. How was I to know she had a pony? Who figures an immigrant's going to have a pony? Do you know what the odds are on that? I mean, in all the pictures I saw of immigrants on boats coming into New York harbor, I never saw one of them sitting on a pony."

In a certain way, I'm thankful that it happened as it did. You don't want to see that ambulance drive out on the field, or wait the excruciating 15 minutes while they strap some poor dude down on the backboard.

Richardson can take his hard earned cash from this last contract and have a nice start on the rest of his healthy and active life. Good for him. It just won't include football.
