Packers Reportedly Bring In Free Agent OL Mike McGlynn for Visit

The former Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman has experience playing both guard and center.

From veteran NFL reporter Howard Balzer of KSDK in St. Louis:

Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette provides clarity, reporting McGlynn will visit sometime this week.

McGlynn enters his seventh season in the NFL in 2014 and spent the past two with the Indianapolis Colts, where he started all 16 games in 2012 and 14 of 15 games played in 2013.

An interior offensive lineman, McGlynn has experience playing both guard and center.

For a team that recently lost Evan Dietrich-Smith in free agency, the Packers could be looking to bring in competition for players like J.C. Tretter and Don Barclay at the center position.

From the article on Green Bay Press Gazette, it sounded like Mike struggled at Guard but played well at Center. Perhaps he is like EDS and is really best at 1 position.

Also, my cousin has the same name so I am kind of rooting for the Packers to sign him.

Just out of curiosity, what about my post is there to dislike?

I can see I have 1 person that seems to like to dislike everything I say but 4 dislikes for this? Can someone tell me what I said that isn't liked.

I'll bet this gets at least 5 dislikes...

I posted how to delete the header from the page in response to someone saying it was disrupting their view of the site on their small laptop and a whole bunch disliked that. They even disliked someone thanking me for posting it.

I thought it was funny that some people are that self important.

Jeremy brown, Just read this post. I had to reply. I don't know if you meant this to be funny, but I can't help it, I'm holding my stomach. I can't stop laughing. This is better than a soap opera. Sorry!! I can't help it. A whole bunch disliked you for posting a way to delete a header??

You guy's are talking about all the dislikes, & likes you're getting. Your post here of someone who gave a dislike to someone who thanked you, tears me up.

I've been looking at all the comments on the like & dislike feature, & other posts. I see 8/5 4/9 3/5 6/2 0/9 I/5 3/7 5/2 ECT.

Last night I posted what I thought were 2 Decent, Respectful, & Packer backing posts. I got 0/0 on both. WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT??

I've come to the conclusion, that the more likes & dislikes one has, the more knowledge of Football & the Packers, one must have?? WHAT DOES THAT SAY FOR ME?? I quit drinking 3 weeks ago. I think I'm going to start again.

Once again, I mean No Disrespect, or Offense. LVT

You can't get any funnier than that. I just noticed I got 2 dislikes for trying to settle a feud. Maybe I'm starting to gain more Football Knowledge. Common guys, there's the trolls factor, people that don't care for you, or the ones who should be G.M.'s, Head Coach, and Players all rolled into one. Who cares who likes it or dislikes it? Sites like this are meant for Packers fans to speak they're mind, voice a opinion, whatever it may be. My favorites are what I call "Keyboard Warriors". You know damn well most wouldn't have the sack to say the things they type to your face. Forget about it and have fun! GO PACK GO!

Hi Tom B., I guess I've said before, that I try to remain neutral on this site. What's between you & Stroh, is between you & him. I hope I use the right words here. You've more than made your point on Stroh. I would say, that at this point, it's almost becoming over kill. I don't know you, but I know you have a lot of Football knowledge. I don't know Stroh either, but he also seems to have a lot of Football knowledge. I don't know if what you are saying is true, but you seem to have Bitter Hatred for this guy. I had a Foreman, if I met him in a bar, it might be the last day of his life. As much as I agree with you on some things, I don't like reading some of the things you've said to Stroh. I would tell Stroh, I don't like him referring to you as his Bitch. If this were me, I would tell, (Suggest) to both of you to take the High Road. If what you say, is true, & doesn't stop, then you 2 need to meet somewhere and settle this. That's what I'd do. I wouldn't take, what you've said to him, & I wouldn't take what he's said to you. When it comes to the Draft & a lot of the player's, I might be the dumbest person on this post, but I don't want to hear it. If someone gives me s#@t, they're going to get it back, & vice versa. You have way too much football knowledge & interest in the GB Packers, to be carrying on this vendetta against Stroh. I'd say everyone's probably formed their opinion. I'm just trying to help here. I know I'd much rather be able to talk to you about different issues, than to be arguing back & forth every day with you. Stroh & I did not start out as friends. We aren't what you'd call friends now, I'm now glad to say, we can post or reply to one another with respect. I know if I give him S#@t, I'm going to get it back, & he knows if he gives me any s#@t, he's going to get it back. It's a lot more enjoyable to be able to talk respectfully to someone, even if you have issues. Unless this guy Broke Up your Marriage, or Stole your High School Sweetheart, None of this Football is worth anything. My wife & I lost our only child, My Son at 21. What does any of this crap compare to that. Try taking the High Road Tom, I think both of you will feel better about it. In the scheme of things, the GB Packers are pretty far down the scale, of what's really important. JMO Hope I've said the right things?? Think About It!! LVT

Hi Tom B., Thank you for the respectful reply. I thought maybe you were really going to nail me for getting involved. You're are right. I best stay out of this. It's none of my business. Hope to be able to agree & disagree with you in the future. I've always been a loner. I'm sure there will be plenty you'll disagree with me on. I hope it will always be respectfully. I thought maybe I could help here, but 1/2 way through, I knew I was probably getting into something, I had No Business getting into. My intentions were in the right place, & I look forward to posting & replying from time to time with you, even if we disagree. I'm going to say the same thing to Stroh.

Hi Stroh, I thought maybe I could help with this, but I really had No Business getting involved. As I've said to Tom B., I would hope that we can post & reply respectfully to one another. We've knocked heads, as you say, but S#@T happens. I understand you, & I'm pretty sure you understand me. I'm even more sure we will be disagreeing in the upcoming season. That's what this board is about. As long as it can be done without name calling & it's respectful, that's how I think it should be. Your posts, for the most part are beyond my scope of knowledge, but I would hope we can Post & Reply from time to time. I should not have got involved here. @ Tom Birney... Stroh and I don't care for one another either, the difference is Tom, I really don't pay any attention to him and him for the most part lately, he doesn't pay attention to me. It just works better that way. I've had several "Stroh Favorites", but this one, this is still one of my favorites.

Sorry, I clicked on "like" for your posts, so I can't help you with why people clicked on dislike. I really like the like and dislike buttons. If others have already posted on a topic and I have nothing to add, I can use the buttons. I think it would be very interesting if you could click on the like and dislike buttons and get a list of the names of the people who liked or disliked a comment. IDK how hard or expensive it might be to build that into the website.

No problem. I really don't put to much concern into who likes or dislikes my comments. There definitely is 1 person though that dislikes everything. I'm thinking its between 3-4 people.

I like the like/dislike buttons, I just don't like the ones that just use it just to dislike every comment because they have no life and choose to come here and dislike everyone..

I would love it if you could see who liked it and who disliked it. Facebook you can see who liked stuff, and its nice.

This guy sounds like the backup center. Might be a good pickup. Packers won't have to use a late round draft on a G/C. Probably much less risk if they pick him up. No need to shuffle O-line if tretter goes down.

He might be a backup only type of player. He might be like EDS where he didn't really fit in at guard but plays well at center.

I think it might be worth bringing him in to compete with Tretter, and Barclay.
Its not going to cost a lot and really what downside would there be? If he doesn't work out, they can cut him.

As crazy as it may sound......I think they may actually have to guarantee this guy some money. Packers brought him in to talk, work him out, and let doctors look at him (I assume).

But you're right, they can cut him, and I don't think it will be that much money (lost) against the cap.

McGlynn was a 4th round pick in 2008. He is 29 years old. He has started 48 games in 6 seasons, playing guard and some center. Started 11 games at guard and 3 games at center for the injured starting center Satele (Indianapolis) and many thought he outplayed Satele, but Satele himself was released later, in part due to poor play and a $5.1 million cap #. McGlynn is 6'5" tall, weighs 325 pounds. Mike Wells of ESPN described McGlynn as solid in playing center in relief of Satele. Bill Polian though rated him as a "D" FA player worth only vet minimum on a 1 year contract with no guaranteed $. Base pay of $1.5 million last year but with a cap # of 2.5 million.

The dislike this time came inside of 45 minutes at 3 AM. Not sure what there is to dislike. I googled the Indianapolis newspapers, over the cap, and a few websites to obtain some basic facts about McGlynn. I provided the only opinions I found: one by Mike Wells of ESPN and another expressed by Bill Polian. I did not express my opinion regarding McGlynn because I have not formed an opinion yet. Oh well, dislike all you want!

Don't worry, I got your back. I liked both of your comments. :-)

I haven't seen much other then what was said on Green Bay Press Gazette. Which is essentially what you stated.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Packer signing him just because my cousin has the same name. It would be a fun thing for my family. As far as his play on the field, I have no idea.
I just thought it was interesting that they said he played well at center in the 3 games last year.

Well, if they want to get bigger at the middle to counter the Lions' DL this guy fits the bill. Not sure why he would play better at C then G given his size. You lose a fraction of a second at C over G when snapping the ball so I always thought it was the harder position to play. But whatever. Maybe he just had some down competition in those three games. Maybe he just had his nirvana moment where the universe came together for him. Either way, there is not much to lose by bringing him in. From the outside, it definitely looks safer than counting on Tretter rising up or Barclay making the switch.

That's my concern about Tretter, going against the likes of Fairly and Suh, with no game time under his belt. I did read in the Journal that Tretter had been practicing with the Packers at the end of the season for 7 weeks, so they clearly have some idea. MM said the kid kid has been working hard and is smart as hell, encouraging. McCarthy thinks he'll handle the mental part no problem.

This guy wouldn't appear to be a significant signing but at this point in free agency, the bargains are flying. Assuming they are talking small contract, I say the more the merrier. Extra competition never hurts a team.

Having said that, I'm fine with the Packers adding their normal 1 or 2 draft choices to what they have and calling it an offseason along the OL. And signing McGlyn wouldn't really alter the need to draft OL. That should be done each and every year. Five guys play at any one time so it is impossible to be so strong that drafting more help to protect the franchise is not a smart move.

Not significant but possibly a dependable backup, who could at least offer competition at Center. So while not a headliner type of signing it could have a good impact with the other players on the OL.
Also if they were to sign him, they wouldn't have to go into the draft having to draft a G/C prospect. They could take more of a Tackle prospect if they chose to.
We know how Thompson works for the most part. He will draft at least 1 player on the OL.

Honestly, without the feature if hiding comments that have too many dislikes, the whole like/dislike thing is kind of pointless. And I say that as someone who inevitably clicks to read Archie's latest rant on Jersey Al. I can't help myself, it's like slowing down to rubberneck at an accident.

If everyone in the above comment thread would focus their energy on discussing the Packers rather than getting into pissing matches all the time, the comments would be more interesting in general.
