Packers Question of the day - Swapping Places

A great topic was posted from Manish Mehta - a New York Jets beat writer for the NY Daily News.

If Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady swapped places, would Rodgers have more Super Bowl rings with Bill Belichick as his head coach?

Chime in.

Yes Rodgers would because he would have been in a win today culture where the Patriots bring in players to help today not draft and develop, draft and develop is good if you also have a QB that needs to grow and mature. look back at the Packers last several seasons, they were always missing that x factor either on defense or offense and we all screamed for a free agent signing, now we are making a Superbowl run with no experience at corner, no way the Pats would be in that position.we all know if the Packers season ends in Atlanta it will be because of poor play in the secondary.

The pass rush is one of the weakest of the top 15 teams in the league. If there was more pressure on the quarterbacks, the wide receivers would not have as much time to get separation from the backs. How many sacks have the Pack have is the last three games? Not very many. We need a legitimate free agent pickup to get to the QB.

If Rodgers would have more SBs with Belichick it would be because of Belichick as his GM, not because of BBs coaching. As GM and HC Belichick consistently plugs in players that he needs to win today.
However, it should be noted that since Rodgers came into the league in 2005 the Patriots and Packers both have one SB win each. The Patriots have made it to 3 SBs since 2005 but have only one victory. The Patriots lost to the Giants 2X in the SB in the same seasons that the Packers were eliminated by the Giants. So it seems to me that since neither QB was able to get past the Giants in the same seasons Rodgers would still have only SB with BB same as he has with MM. Thanks, Since '61

Some pretty sound logic there. Hard to argue.

I was looking at cap numbers last night and noticed something pretty damn interesting. Green bay ranked 5th in cap spent on offense, 7th in cap spent on defense, and 10th in available cap space. The Packers are spending money.

How can all of these things be true? The Packers are 30th in dead cap money with $3M. The Patriots have even less dead money on the books with about $1.5M. So the bottom line here, I think is that both the Pats and the Packers are keen to make sure they are getting good value.

Maybe the Pats are just a little better at dumping their own guys and finding someone else. Then again, isn't that what has left the Packers' cupboard bare at CB? Maybe the mystique of the Pats having so many Super Bowl appearances under Brady/BB makes NE a more attractive destination? Maybe FA players would rather be in Boston than Green Bay? Maybe the Packers don't kiss ass enough during FA visits? I don't know.

Would Rodgers have more rings in NE? Probably not. The Pats have won exactly ONE Super Bowl win during the course of Rodgers' career. The same number he has in Green Bay. Everything else is perception based on the memory of the great run the Pats had in the early part of Brady's career.

Not sure if he'd have more rings, but I much prefer the way we do business. Not nearly as many ethical question marks with the Pack.

This should have been answered in the 2014 season where we would have mopped the floor had we not had the complete breakdown in Seattle. Perhaps this question will be put to bed when the Packers squash the Pats in 2.5 weeks.

The Patriots would not leave it up to a group of inexperienced and banged up corners to make a SB run. They would have found some help, the Packers are hoping for a miracle from our defensive backs. I will be praying for a miracle too but I would feel better if there was one experienced DB .

Packers signed Bene Benwikere to the practice squad earlier this week. He's got significant NFL experience with the Panthers...of course, the questions are...
1. ...why didn't they do this sooner?
2. ...if he's been on the street so long, what's wrong with him?

I read that he was torched by Julio Jones for over 300 yards in the season opener and then cut. I remember him from the Panthers run last year, he wasn't THAT bad. I still think Joe Whitt is one of the best CB coaches in the NFL and at the very worst the Packers are thinking about next year maybe? In the short, short, term if this Benwikere is healthy this weekend I hope he dresses. He's played Atlanta several times and could be helpful perhaps...

I doubt Benwikere is going to be active this weekend. First of all they'd need to promote him from the practice squad and drop someone else from the roster. I suppose if they thought Rollins' or Randall's injuries are serious enough that could happen, but it doesn't appear to be trending that way. Maybe if Michael is deep enough in the doghouse, but I don't think that will happen either. Maybe swap places with Callahan and move him to the PS? I don't see Callahan suiting up in the next two games and while I'm not up on PS rules I suspect he's still eligible (maybe a mysterious 'injury' could land him on IR so they don't lose him).

"He's played Atlanta several times and could be helpful perhaps..."

I think that might be the key, right there. He's had some "up-close-and-personals" with the Atlanta offense and with a Carolina defense that had success against them last year. He could at least provide additional scouting info...although it's not as if the Packers never play the Falcons.

I think he got bit by the "no Josh Norman on the field" bug that bit that whole Carolina defense this year. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him active this weekend and playing in a limited role.

"He could at least provide additional scouting info".

That's what I was thinking. Not that the Packers NEED help scouting the Falcons, but he's definitely played many more snaps against Jones and Company and might be helpful in the CB room.
With all the injuries in the secondary i"d be sort of surprised if he wasn't active Sunday.

ALL these injuries drive me nuts. Dallas barely had an injury report and neither does Atlanta.

Would Rodgers have more is a slim possibility. Would Rodgers have as many is highly possible/likely.
The question is whether each would have performed equally if both played under the scenarios that have been for each team...players, coaches, gm, schedule etc. I would think Rodgers would likely have achieved more.

Rodgers is the superior QB--he's Brady with better feet.

He'd have won more, not just because of Belichick. People overlook the Patriots' outstanding GM and college scouting, which have consistently produced more talented teams than those surrounding Rodgers.

Btw, yes, Belichick serves both roles, but I'm sure he's heavily dependent on his scouting department due to his coaching workload. The leaders there are the unsung heroes in New England.

As someone who has called to move on from MM, I would like to add that my complaints on him were based on what seemed to be coaching perfomance alone.
1. Lack of killer instinct. Playing safe when up by 'only' 2 scores. How many times did we see that fall apart?
2. Being over aggressive when the teams performance didn't warrant it. Recall the timeout towards the end of the halfs/game assuming his D would hold.
3. Being over aggressive on the run on your own 42 when we have not shown much ability to bowl through a loaded box.
4. 4 game losing streak this year getting blown out because MM/AR didn't go for the short pickups to move the chains. IMO, this team could have been much better last year too and used the Nelson injury as an excuse. Though there's no question that Cook seems to be an important part of the new offense.

I posted earlier how he seems to have learned and moved on re: #4. And it is hard to totally differentiate between MM/AR without knowing who's calling what play. We are all arm chair coaches and I have no doubt that MM knows more that I ever will about coaching. But the Packers weren't getting it done. Too many 'accidents' happened along the way that showed being under-prepared. Chance favors the prepared mind and the Packers weren't getting it done too many times. Re: the D and CB's, I don't think we can know enough of what is really happening but I really hate when we rush 3 on 3rd and long.

Off topic but since Thompson's name has been brought up I'd like to point out that neither Schneider's Seahwaks nor Dorsey's Chiefs are playing in Conference Championship week. The "experts" have always said Thompson is not as good of a GM because he doesn't sign "proven" veteran talent. Just throwing that out there. That is all.

Uncle Al says yes. As someone else mentioned, no draft and development, free agency, lots of players to carry the load. Note that he may not have more than Brady, the same but not more? But he would have more than being in GB, Favre as well.
As one analyst I heard today saying about the pack pass D, they dont have backups playing on D now they have backups to backups.
I tip my hat to them for what they are doing but hey Teddy, one or 2 free agents with some experience could have made this a lot easier. May even be playing all games at home Ted.

I would say that Rogers would have more than he has now. Not a draft and development fan. Sorry.
I see a lot of three and four year players the Pack developed, didnt want to pay them and now thanks to Ted, they are having fine careers elsewhere.
Therefore Rogers wouldnt have to rely on training new people for the most part, he would have reliable bodies on both sides the ball.

If he keeps changing his story enough, eventually the packers will lose a game and he can go see I was right all along. It is rare to see such total hatred for a team like that. Really weird he pretends to be a fan of something he hates so much.

Only one question - please all you fans of FA, can you give us list of those fabulous and top talent FA who you think are better than players Packers already have. Can we see that list with names, not just "TT needs to sign high quality free agent". And, of course, those free agents have to show warranty against injuries (to avoid safety Bird situation 2 years ago he had with Saints!).
Can you please gave us that list? Any one of you, lovers of FA?

Sure Croat, here is my list, all of whom are currently available:
- Jim Brown to replace Christine Michael
- Deion Sanders to replace Damarious Randall
- Lawrence Taylor, Derrick Brooks, Dick Butkus and Kevin Greene to replace our current LB's (LT might be in prison though I'm not sure)
- Ronny Lott to replace the injured Morgan Burnett
- Jerry Rice to replace Jeff Janis

That's probably all we need TT to sign.

where is cap space for all of those players?
Also, are you sure they are all in proper condition for immediate playing

EDIT: Do they have warranty to avoid injury while practicing and playing? Are they willing to come to Green Bay?

This season has been a success. To make it this far with this secondary is ridiculous. Its all because of Rodgers, a healthy Adams and Cobb with Cook being the missing piece to the offensive puzzle. If Jordy plays this weekend, look out, the Pack will put up 40.

Bill Belichick versus MM as HC??
MM would have had GB in the SB more than once ......if TT worked somewhere else. GB's weaknesses fall in TT's pay grade.
Rewriting the accomplishments of AR or Brady is a practice in futility. ------ They're the two best QBs in the 21st century. -- No need to compare them at all.

Better question: How many Super Bowl wins would each have if they traded Tight Ends that they've had during this time period. Just visualized Gronk in Green and Gold and about 2-3 more Lombardi Trophies sitting in that glass case under Lambeau.
