Packers Prospects: 5 Offensive Linemen to Know Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft

These five players can provide quality competition along Green Bay's offensive line

The Packers Prospects series moves onto the big men, with offensive linemen under the microscope.

While the Packers have a starting five they can feel comfortable with, there is plenty of room for competition along the line.

When it comes to offensive linemen, the Packers generally prefer them between 6’4” and 6’6”. They have not drafted a lineman weighing less than 304 lbs or more than 321 lbs in Brian Gutekunst’s tenure.

Here are five players to know ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft who fit the traditional mold of a Packers offensive lineman.

Graham Barton - Left Tackle - Duke

Barton has plenty of tools to like and at an unconfirmed 6’5” and 311, he is the kind of build the Packers have historically favored.

He is stout, light on his feet, plays with good effort and is equally proficient in the run and pass game. There is not much limiting his ability to grow into a top quality lineman in the NFL. Barton does not look quite as comfortable in space, but is serviceable.

A three-year starting left tackle at Duke, Barton also has six starts at center under his belt.

This experience playing on the inside should mean he has the flexibility to kick inside to guard if the Packers feel confident with Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom as their bookend tackles.

Barton could compete with both Walker and Sean Rhyan for a starting spot on the offensive line right away. He could be on Green Bay’s radar in the first or second round.

Troy Fautanu - Left Tackle - Washington

Another player who could be a target for the Packers as early as pick 25 is Fautanu. An unconfirmed 6’4” and 317 lbs, Fautanu has a great combination of power, aggression, quick feet, and ability to play in space.

He is more of a candidate to stay on the edge rather than move to the interior, as he only started one game at guard for the Huskies, although playing him inside is certainly not out of the question.

If Fautanu does indeed remain a tackle in the NFL, he should be more than up to the task. He locked down opponents consistently at Washington, especially in his final season, where PFF gave him an impressive 88.2 grade in pass protection.

Fautanu’s age (he turns 24 in October), could dissuade the Packers from taking him in the first round, but after they drafted nearly 25-year-old Devonte Wyatt in round one in 2022, all bets are off.

Jordan Morgan - Left Tackle - Arizona

A potential day two option, Morgan built an impressive resume at Arizona, particularly during a dominant last two years.

Although Morgan may not have an elite trait which stands out, he simply does his job in the run and pass game, and does it well.

There is no surefire solution to beating Morgan, as he can keep up with speed rushers and also hold up against power. He also has the movement skills the Packers look for.

The Packers like to cross train their offensive linemen, but in the long run, Morgan, who was measured at 6’4.7” and 312 lbs at the Senior Bowl, is likely to stay at left tackle, where he would provide strong competition for Walker.

After selecting Zach Tom and Sean Rhyan in 2021, will Green Bay keep up their trend of drafting “two-first-names” offensive linemen?

Sataoa Laumea - Right Tackle -  Utah

Laumea is a day three option who the Packers would probably move to guard immediately, as they have often done with tackles selected on NFL Draft Saturday.

After starting out as a right guard, Laumea was moved to right tackle for his final two seasons at Utah. He measured in at 6’4.1” at the Senior Bowl and weighed in at 319 lbs, placing him on the heavier end as far as Packers offensive linemen go.

The former Ute moves well and has the power to move people consistently if he can learn better technique. His strength is the run game, while he can look a bit dicey in pass protection at times.

Do not be surprised to hear Laumea’s name called as a Green Bay Packer on the third day of the draft.

Beaux Limmer - Center - Arkansas

There has been plenty of talk about Jackson Powers-Johnson, the impressive center from Oregon, but if the Packers want to provide competition for their current inconsistent starter Josh Myers, Limmer is more likely to be their choice.

At a confirmed 6’4.4” and 301 lbs, Limmer is much more Green Bay’s type than Powers-Johnson, who is shorter (6’3.2”) and heavier (334 lbs) than they usually prefer.

Besides the measurables, Limmer is a strong prospect with sound technique, enough power to get by and consistent effort. He plays the center position very well, especially considering he has only done it for one season.

He seems built to play the position. Limmer has no problem finding work, helping out his fellow offensive linemen, and has no fear of putting his face into the fire and being physical.

Limmer’s previous, extensive experience at right guard means he could compete with both Myers and Rhyan as a rookie, before potentially succeeding Myers as the starting center from 2025. The Packers could grab Limmer date on day two or early on day three.

Jordan Morgan seems to me like the most Packers-ish O-lineman - with the ability to play anywhere on the line - especially tackle. I don't think the Packers will select an O-lineman in the 1st round but certainly one in the 2nd. Actually I would not be surprised if the Packers traded out of the 1st - into the top of the 2nd - giving them 3 second round picks (plus another one in the third). If so, I look for at least another interior O-lineman in the 4th round+.

The idea of trading completely out of the first is really growing on me. Unless a really good player falls at 25, I would love an extra two picks within that second and third round.

There seems to be an abundance of talent - relative to the Packers needs - in the second and even third rounds. I agree - unless a top 5 CB, a top 2 D-lineman, a top 3 O-lineman, a top 2 WR etc. - falls to the Packers at 25 - I think that Gutekunst would probably trade down. If so, it will be in the second and third rounds where Packers can still find a good O-lineman, D-lineman, Safety, LB, CB and RB - all of which the Packers could potentially do with their 5+ picks.

As long as he doesn't trade up, I'm all good. :)

In the NFL:
Barton is going to be a C/G.
Fautanu is a G/RT.
Morgan is a LT
Sautaoa Laumea is a G
Beaux Limmer - C
Yes, agree. JPJ has got ton of hype since Senior bowl. To me he is an overachiever. Nothing wrong with that and can be a good thing, but his ceiling is much lower and he just doesn't have the body and athleticism that others have.

Disappointed you didn't include Kingsley Suamataia, who will be a RT. He is going to be better than all, but maybe Fautanu. He was already ahead on some or moving ahead of Morgan.

Also Cooper Beebe - G. He'd be a very solid RG for a long time.

Yes, both would be "Packer Types".

In the above list with couple I'd add, rank them as:
Fautanu
King Sua
Morgan
Beebe
Barton
Laumea
Limmer

[Edit] I'd also mention Mims, but not in a good way. He is going to fall. Maybe not pre-draft, but on draft day. His high value right now is on his freakish size and Potential, but not on much experience at all. He has medicals and sounds like mental immaturity as well. Hope Packers stay far away.

Mims would seem to be a Day 3 pick for the Packers - who would require 1-2 years of development before becoming a finished product - or not. In a way, he reminds me of Yosh Nijman - who has turned out to have more "show" than "go."

The Packers prize versatility in their offensive linemen, because people get hurt. Tom played LG, RG, and LT before landing at RT. Jenkins has also played a variety of line positions. And when I look at this crop of linemen, the most versatile is Graham Barton, IMO. He could backup/beat out Myers. We could put him at RG. He could backup/beat out Walker. He'd be a plus player at any of those positions, which would give us 3 plus players on the Oline.

If we want a straight LT who can start from the first day, Morgan is looking like the best bet to me.

LH, do you consider Runyan gone? He'd be a versatile backup and competition for three spots on the inside too, if he comes at the minimum or close. He had a down year but would start on any other team in the North and elsewhere with the possible exception of the Lions.

I hope we keep him. He loves playing in Green Bay and he doesn’t miss many practices or games. I’d be surprised if he didn’t get a decent offer.

Comes down to what others offer him and what the team actually thinks he was playing through injury wise last season. His play in the last 6 weeks or so was very good, but then they still kept platooning him. That would seem to suggest they are moving on or think price may force it.

You know the Bears and Vikings will try to make it impossible for the Packers to have him back. They need bodies. The Bears have money.

His best ability that doesn't get appreciated much here except by me, is his lack of penalties. What value is that in a big game?

Limmer is a nice fallback player if they miss out on JPJ, Frasier or Van Pran. Over 1500 snaps at RG before moving to C last year. If they don't take any IOL early he'd be a nice player in the 4th that could come in and provide competition at two spots.

Dominic Puni-Kansas is one I have watched for awhile. 6'4 320lbs and played OT @ Kansas pretty well. He played OG and C @ the Senior Bowl and stood out.

Mason McCormick-S Dakota State plays multiple positions. There were a lot of Jack Rabbits @ the Senior Bowl. Several O-lineman and a really good RB.

I have also watched Brandon Coleman-TCU. He played LT this year but is projected @ G. 6'4 316lbs

I wouldn't be surprised if Dominic Puni is a 2nd round pick.

Mason McCormick = Day 3 hidden gem

Don't know about Limmer. Was absolutely destroyed in 1 on 1's at the senior bowl by Sweat. JPJ or Fraizer would be a plus though.

Did you know that Royce Newman is a bigger cap hit for us in 2024 than Zach Tom? Sean Rhyan makes more than both!!. And that all three of them are making less than $5M combined?

Most of our team is on their rookie deal, and if veterans like Bakhtiari and Runyan and Nijman are leaving, then we need to get some better players on the line. Right now, our 6th best OL is Newman, and nobody behind him has ever played a snap in the NFL.

We could move people around again. Tom at LT, Jenkins at C, Myers and Rhyan at guards. etc, , but we really need more pieces, better pieces. Nothing will derail this season like Love getting hurt, because then he's not practicing, and if he's not practicing, we're not improving.

If we want a legitimate starter at LT in the draft, we're almost certainly committing to our first round pick. We could use a guy who could beat out Myers, who is a guy who has already started about 40 games for us. He started on playoff teams that scored points and won games. There are guys in this draft who I think would clearly beat him out, but most would not. Once the top couple of Centers go off the board, it's 50/50 whether anybody is an actual upgrade over Myers.

A guy like Barton could back up any position, and probably beat out Walker or Myers. He'd be a plus player anywhere. You resign Runyan. Now, you at least have two decent backups and 3 plus starters on the Oline. I'm not counting on Mt. Caleb, and I'm hoping that Newman gets beaten out in training camp and isn't on the 53 man squad.

You still need more, but Barton at #25 would be a real solid step towards improving our offensive line, which will help us score more points. He's on my short list. The top CB on the board would also have to be on the really short list, and I like DeJean, but he'll be gone by #25. Rakestraw?

Couple of day 2 / 3 prospects are Christian Jones from Texas and Walter Rouse from Oklahoma.
Should offer Newman to the Jets. Arod may think he's ok. A 5th or 6th would be better than nothing.
