Packers Practice: Lacy, Bulaga and Bostick In Pads, Jones Still Out

It will be a surprise if the veteran right tackle is able to go on Sunday. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, however, looks good to go.

From Silverstein

And Demovsky:

I will be shocked if Bulaga plays on Sunday.

The absence of Jones gives Lattimore or Barrington a chance to take the inside linebacker job and run with it. We'll post an update here if McCarthy gives anything new/different to the press when he speaks later this afternoon.

Sounds like Bulaga is a bit limited. I think Sherrod will probably start. Maybe they keep Bulaga on the 46 to be used as a reserve only if needed?

If Jones doesn't play (I am hoping not), either Barrington and/or Lattimore will hopefully be a huge upgrade. I would like to see either play well to keep the job away from Jones.

Honestly even if either Lattimore or Barrington plays average this week, it will be a huge improvement from the way Jones played last week.

I thought about the activating but not starting Bulaga idea...but I feel like if he's healthy enough to play in an emergency, he's healthy enough to start. Let him sit this week.

yeah, that is what I'm thinking too... It was just an idea/thought that I had, and wondered if they would do it or not.

I personally would rather see Bulaga sit out this week, let it get healed up. I think Sherrod would do fine for 1 week.

I don't see BB playing. If that turns out to be the case, I would rather they just kept him out of practice this week. Let it heal.

Sounds like Bulaga will be out at most 1 week which is great news. I hope Barrington gets a chance over Lattimore for Jones spot as I am not high on him at all.

Lattimore is the most athletic of the 2,but Barrington has the attitude and is a thumper -- which we lack soooooooooo much.

I don't care which of the 2 starts though,TBH. As long as 1 plays good enough to force the coaches to sit Brad Jones.

That's exactly how I feel...

I don't care which one is used just so whoever plays, plays well enough that they don't go back to Jones.

I wonder if they will use a combination of the 2? Maybe use Barrington in base and Lattimore in nickel and other packages?

I always sort of assumed that Lattimore was more of the athletic, coverage LB while Barrington was the thumping run-stuffer....no?

Yeah, thats more of how i think of them as well... Although Lattimore was good in the run defense last year. He does hit hard.

Barrington reminds me of Bishop as a player. He will hit hard too... Lattimore brings more speed and athleticism for sure.

Everything that I have seen if Jones doesn't start, Lattimore will.

Based on my memory Barrington is in position a lot more than Lattimore. I'd like to see what Barrington can do against the Jets RB's.

Eddy Lacy is switching back to the old helmet.

Just a guess here, but I think the new helmet's impact detection technology ended up causing Lacy to get pulled from the game last week with what was being described as a concussion despite Lacy showing either very minor (given how quickly he's been able to return to the field) or for all practical purposes no symptoms of an apparent concussion. My opinion is that the impact data that the newer helmet said Lacy sustained ended up causing the Packer's medical staff to take a precautionary action by pulling him from the game. There's probably a reasonable expectation that with certain levels of impact that concussions will be apparent in players and so based solely on the data and the reasonable expectation of a concussion they felt that the best course of action was to side with precaution (especially, considering he suffered a concussion less than 12 months ago) and keep Lacy out. Personally, I think Lacy now realizes the potential issue this could cause with his ability to stay on the field when taking big hits that he doesn't think prevent him from being capable of continuing. Of course taking big hits will probably happen often given he's a big physical between the tackles running back so he's decided to go back to the old helmet where the only detection will be by the symptoms he reflects after taking a big hit and not the impact data that's recorded by the helmet. Again, just my guess on the reason why Lacy's switching back to the old helmet.

WHo cares what helmet. Lets see if he can perform period. Sure didn't do anything against a good defense.

In Peter King's column today he repeatedly asserts that Bulaga is "all but certain" to start this Sunday. I'm more than dubious.

I heard on the radio that Brad Joness' "injury" is just a cover so that the coaches can see Lattimore or Barrington start for a game without officially demoting Jones. Not sure I believe it, but I always like conspiracy theories.

Lol,you know what's crazy? I thought that a couple days ago. I wouldn't put it past the Packers to cleverly do something like that. They usually don't bench starters who are being well-paid. AJ Hawk/Tramon Williams (before he finally turned things around towards the end of last season)/BJ Raji/Morgan Burnett. But they damn sure didn't hesistate to bench Sam Shields when he showed no interest to tackle
