Packers Podcast: Shawn Slocum's Tenure Should Come to an End

After multiple special teams miscues in the NFC Championship game, the Packers special teams coordinator has to go.

On Monday I joined Bart Winkler of K107 in Fond du Lac for our weekly Green Bay Packers game review. We recount all the questionable and inexplicable plays by the Packers as they blew a two-score lead with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Looking ahead, I call for Shawn Slocum's tenture in Green Bay to come to a close, whether by firing or resignation or retirement. The same sentiment goes for A.J. Hawk and Brad Jones at the inside linebacker position.

"Nothing to fix"!!!! That's the mentality that got us here in the first place. Shame on you.

------POST on packers.com
What does Coach McCarthy have to fix this offseason about the team or about himself as a coach?

He has to reshape the team based on the personnel changes the Packers are going to experience. It’s the same for every coach in the league. As far as this team goes, there was nothing to fix. It had it all. That was a championship team that inexplicably flipped a switch with the Super Bowl on the line. I’m devastated for every Packers fan that is trying to make it through their hurt today.

Slocum's special teams have been mediocre to bad for years, why should he be fired now?

That is not how things are done in Green Bay.

Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty. Coach McCarthy is extremely loyal to "his guys." Production on the field takes a back seat to

Capers? Really? The defense did its job yesterday and then some. They're definitely trending up.

That's true but Capers has a history of up again-down again years with his defenses. And I can't get that 3rd and 19 out my craw. Vic Fangio is still available. I wouldn't complain at all if Ted decided to breathe some new life into the defense and some fire the team overall.

My last post on the topic.
Thank you Packers for putting football in perspective. To us fans, it is a game. We shouldn't let it upset us. We should just enjoy it for what it is. I have to live with the 1969 Cubs and the 2014 Packers.

But to the coaches whose job it is to prepare the team to play 60 minutes every Sunday, to the players whose job it is to play their position correctly, to the management whose job it is to hold people responsible for their job - this should not be called a game. If you who are paid to do your job, don't do it and aren't held responsible for it, then Green Bay should give up the franchise and let some private owner take over.

Shawn Slocum shouldn't be fired - he should be fired from a cannon into the sun!

Here in NY coaches were fired from both the jets and Giants , fans had a lot to do with it , flying planes with banners and all , the house with the yellow fence across from lambeau should say today FIRE SLOCUM ! I will gladly pay for it .

Too bad they waited until the horse was out of the barn before realizing that poor coaching has pretty bad consequences. It will be very difficult to get back to where we were at haftime yesterday. On the cusp of going to the SB. You need the talent, luck, few injuries and momentum all going together. Very problematic. We won in 2010 and it's taken 5 years to get everything aligned again. Canning Slocum may be great but the fact that they kept him around this long was playing with fire and a gas can.

I read a Seattle blog that the coaches decided if certain people were out there on the field goal team they would kick and if those people were not out there they would fake it and pass.
My point. They planned this well in advance.
I agree with an analist, Seattle looks are film and adjust its game for GB weakneses but Mike and his coaches don't they just play the exact same game every week, no preparation no changes.
Thus, the players are under coached aka Bostick, Dix, others......

So you're saying the Packers are the only team that doesn't watch game film. You need treatment.
