Packers Podcast: It's a Coin Flip Between Flynn and Tolzien

On Friday I joined Bart Winkler of K107 in Fond du Lac for our weekly preview of the upcoming Green Bay Packers game, this time hosting the Oakland Raiders in the home preseason opener. We discuss how much the starters will play, the likelihood of seeing the no-huddle offense but the most interesting part may have been the discussion on the backup quarterbacks, Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien. It's truly a job up for grabs...

I'd say it's pretty even and yes, from most fans perspectives it could go either way, but if they keep two I am going with Tolzein. Actually the two new additions to the practice squad is huge and that could actually allow them to keep three this year which is a good thing as I also like Flynn. I just think Tolzein is a long term answer to the backup position. Huge upside on this kid. People are blind if they can't see how much this guy has improved since last year.

Remember he hasn't even been here a year yet and he has caught Flynn and did what Graham Harrel and B.J. Coleman couldn't do. Again, one offseason. He's further ahead progress wise than Aaron Rodgers was after his first full season in MM's offense. I am telling you this kid Tolzein could be special. To cut him would be huge mistake. He'll get picked up immediately by S.F. I predict if that happens.

Eli can't handle McAdoo's Packer offense in New York. I'm sure they are really hoping that the Packers cut Flynn. I'm sure the Packers are aware of this. Would the Giants be willing to part with a relatively high draft pick in exchange for Flynn?

I guess the same could be said with regard to Tolzien. Perhaps the Giants would prefer to have the stronger arm, as it gets pretty breezy in NY come November.

Some flip. Neither one of them will ever be anything more than backups. Ponder sucks and is better than eithr of these guys.
Lets be fair. Flynn had all the time in the world all the ops to show his stuff and he has failed over and over again. He sucks. Tolzien is mediocre at best.
