Packers officially sign top draft pick Kevin King

Even more news out of Green Bay on Thursday, the Packers inked a deal with another player to help equip their roster.

Except this player is the 33rd overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, Kevin King.

It was first reported Thursday afternoon by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle and National Football Post. The issued contract was made official by the organization a couple of hours later in the evening.

King, who just celebrated his 22nd birthday less than a week ago, is expected to come to the Packers and instantly kickstart the process of rebuilding a tattered secondary whose cornerbacks needed the extra firepower.

Firepower is what King provides, bringing to the Packers a resume that includes six interceptions through his final three seasons at Washington playing opposite Sidney Jones - once touted as the best cornerback in the recent class.

King has only been playing the cornerback position since 2015 after initially beginning his college career as a safety. In his first season following the transition, he recorded a career-best three interceptions and 4.5 tackles in the backfield.

At 6'3", 200 pounds and maintaining an impressive 4.43 speed, expect to see a lot of disguised cornerback blitzes with King in his rookie season.

King becomes the sixth player in the Packers' 10-man 2017 draft class to agree to a deal, albeit the details of said contract haven't been reported as of yet.

However, Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire acknowledged that Spotract has King's four-year deal coming out to about $7.08 million with a $3.29 million signing bonus. It took the Packers until mid-June last year to get a deal done with 2016 first-round pick Kenny Clark.

The only remaining rookies the Packers have yet to sign are safety Josh Jones, running back Jamaal Williams, linebacker Vince Biegel and defensive tackle Montravius Adams.

I remember nail biter years when first round draft picks didn't sign until well into training camp... But then again he is a 2nd round draft pick :-)

Glad to have that nonsense in the rearview. It was really getting out of hand! Sam Bradford's rookie deal was insane!

(The Vikes ought to trade for him. He's a beast!!)

yes I agree :-) Yet sometimes there still is drama - see the Joey Bosa situation...
But I'm also glad this is mostly a non issue anymore for the teams.

Before the team announces. Player tweets and whatever. Any trash news form Cowherd and his ilk.

It was joke (the word "officially" isn't necessary since drafting him wasn't signing him there's no such thing as an unofficial signing).
