Packers Lose WR Coach Robinson To Cowboys

Jimmy Robinson will join the Cowboys to coach their wide receivers and to be assistant head coach.

The Dallas Cowboys have announced the hiring of Jimmy Robinson to be their wide receivers coach and assistant head coach.

Robinson had coached the Packers' wide receivers for the last four seasons, coming on board when head coach Mike McCarthy made the initial hires for his staff. Known as a hyper-perfectionist, Robinson is moving to Dallas to work with Jason Garrett, whom he previously worked with during his time with the New York Giants.

Mike McCarthy had denied permission for quarterback coach Tom Clements to interview with the Chicago Bears for their offensive coordinator position last summer. While he could have done the same to the Cowboys (a team can refuse to allow a coach who is under contract to interview for any position except for head coach) McCarthy allowed Garrett to interview Robinson, thus opening the door for the move.

Interestingly enough Robinson takes the place of Ray Sherman, who was the Packers' wide receivers coach under Mike Sherman. No word yet who McCarthy might replace Robinson with.

Clements and Robinson are two big pieces of the coaching puzzle in GB. That said, no one is irreplaceable--I just hope MM can find someone equally as competent to take their places.

Well, I've "requested" his release before, so I can't say I'm unhappy about it. I definitely thought that the drop problem was a coaching one.

That being said, I'm not around the facility to make such claim with confidence.

Perfectionist or not, it was a very real problem that wasn't being corrected. Maybe the players will respond better to a new position coach.

Well Said! May be a great time to get a more "hands on" coach!

I agree PackersRS. Robinson makes the list of assisants that we can most afford to lose...along of course w/ Slocum and probably Campmen, Campy is only a probably because he held the line to a high level of play for the playoffs. I would much rather lose Robinson than anyone on the defensive side of the ball.

I McCarthy finds a stud for his replacement, a guy who was a Ted Thompson type player and had to fight for a roster spot every year...thus teach them how to catch practically every ball. Don Beebe, Robert Brooks, Steve Largent...just throwing some names out...

It seems like every year other teams raid the Packers coaching and/or front office staffs. Usually it's Seattle, Minny or Philly doing the raiding. I guess it's some sort of complement in a way but wish they would look somewhere else.

So the headline COULD have read: "Robinson drops Packers."

All the best to coach Robinson. I know he loves to play golf. May he play all the times that he can and can find a glove that fits nicely over his newfound bling.
