Packers LB Nick Perry Reportedly Has Broken Foot

The Packers linebacker was hurt in the Packers' win over the Ravens on Sunday.

From Chris Terlop of WDUZ radio in Green Bay who works with Chris Havel:

Lance Allan of TMJ4 says the same thing:

Perry got hurt sacking and forcing a fumble on Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco on Sunday that led to a Packers' field goal as time expired before halftime.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Perry sprained his ankle on the play. He later returned for five plays in the second half.

Perry's injury seems to be coming at the worst possible time, with fellow outside linebacker Clay Matthews also expected to miss several weeks while recovering from thumb injury.

The second-year linebacker appeared to be coming into his own, notching three sacks in past two games.

Whether Perry is a candidate for short-term injured reserve remains to be seen.

Head coach Mike McCarthy will address the media with a 3:00 p.m. press conference and should provide an update even if he doesn't have all the details yet.

So he broke his foot on the play where we thought he hurt his ankle, or he broke it sometime later?

Ah who cares, either way this is a huge deal. Losing Clay was a big deal but now we are out both of our best OLB. That leaves us with Neal and??? very not good.

If it's not season-ending, as has been reported, than that adds yet another player who is taking up a roster spot but not playing. A lot of tough roster decisions coming up.

I'd probably IR Bush, cut Kuhn and cut Wilson (and cut Hill once Starks is ready to go). Jones, Cobb or Perry seem destined for the short-term IR. That'll give them some room to bring up a couple WRs and another LB.

I think this every year, but right now I really believe it - the NFL needs some equivalent of the 14-day DL. It's ridiculous that (almost) the only option is IR or taking up a valuable roster spot while not playing.

[Cue Stroh jumping in with "Your a retard, they have a short-term IR option! STFU!"]

I agree with you... I have been saying this they need more options other then IR, or the 6 game short term IR for 1 player.

I understand the NFL doesn't want teams hoarding talent, but they can adjust rules so teams can't do that.

But just think of this. Since the start of the season Casey Hayward, Morgan Burnett, GVR, CM3, James Starks, and the latest group of injured players, have missed or will miss multiple games. During that time wouldn't it have been nice if they could have signed other players?

I've been thinking roster expansion for a while now. At least PS expansion, please. If teams have to draw up more replacement guys, at least give them the opportunity of focus on football, rather than used car sales, in the months leading up to being put on an NFL roster.

LOL re other part of the post. I've been avoiding He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named for a while now. It's funny, he came on-line shortly before Cow42 disappeared...

Why would I do that? If its being reported by the packers its seems pretty credible.

Any way, along w/ losing Matthews the Packers roster is the walking wounded.

Cobb or Perry seem to be out the longest, so one of them will get the IR w/ return in 6-8 wks. Hopefully the Packers are able to carry these guys w/o putting them all on IR. Only one can get the IR w/ return designation.

I had brought up the idea, or thought a few weeks ago that they might possibly try trading Wilson. He has value, but if they could get a 6th-7th round draft pick, I could see them doing so.

He has been a healthy scratch and he is way behind Jolly in terms of run stopping, which is supposed to be his forte.

Right now I would guess Hill will go to PS, and they will put one of those 3 on short term IR, pending on the injury's possibly 2 will go on IR...

Cut KUUUUUUUUUHN?! Then who would we chat for??? How could you suggest cutting such a hard working solid veteran with the exact make up of what defines this great franchise!?!? #sarcasm I agree. Bush is hurt and a non factor with the young DBs able to exceed his DB skills and are just as capable on ST. As for Kuuuuhn, its obvious he is a non-contributor if all these linebackers are healthy but with them out hurt Kuhn will be needed to cover kicks and unfortunately be on the punt teams. Bush to IR, Hill to PS. Kuhn to the "Good, Bad Ugly" article weekly. Guess which one? Its only a matter of time... Maybe this is our injury free week! PAck 27-Browns 17.

Just 1 question. When the Hell are the Packers going to catch a break with these injury's??? If the Packers can go 2-2 in the next 4 games I think that will be pretty impressive considering the mounting injuries...

The Eagles D is pretty poor, but we're going to need all hands on deck against that offense. I'm not looking forward to seeing Neal try to chase down McCoy. It would be really lovely if we could win the next two and then have Clay come back.

As I said above, I really think Bush is a wasted roster space (House and Hyde are more than filling-in for him on special teams and they can both play D) and I'd say the same for Kuhn (though I doubt he goes anywhere).

Yeah, I agree with you Evan that they could let Bush go. Possibly to IR, pending on what his injury is. They will be having Hayward coming back at some point, and they just brought up Nixon.
That to go with Hyde and House they have plenty of options for special teams.
I don't see Kuhn going anywhere. I think he is a wasted roster spot to be honest, but I don't see them getting rid of him either.

As many injuries as the Packers have had, you have to love their response to them. It was obvious to all of us that watched the game that Hawk, Perry, Hyde, and others mentioned played great games. But, did you notice Malumba on the end run that nearly resulted in a touchdown for the Ravens in the first half? He got in real low...under his blocker... I believe he also got a hand on the runners foot, forcing him to the outside. I thought he did a good job for what little experience he has. It is great to see the young lads getting coached up. Injuries are a bummer. But there are areas on this team that is neck deep in talent.

The good news is Andy Mulumba is no slouch. I think he can hold the fort until either Matthews or Perry comes back. He's a guy on this rise this Mulumba kid. People also forget all Teddy Tee has to do is get on the phone with Mr. Vic So'oto and he can fill in if need be. Do not forget that KC preseason game a few years ago. So'oto was dominating. He just has never been given much of a chance since. Give So'oto a call and we're fine again and everyone here is happy. Cut Kuhn and Hill.

Was thinking something similar, but Vic So'oto is on IR w/ the Cardinals.

ILB Terrell Manning on the other hand is currently on the Charger's Practice Squad and if signed by the Packers to the 53 man roster that might allow J.Lattimore to play some outside as well as the inside linebacker position that he manned well this weekend.

All-in-all, someone will probably need to get traded, placed on IR, put back onto the PS or outright released. RB Michael Hill might be a candidate for being put back on the practice squad if the RB position looks to be much healthier, CJ.Wilson is a prime candidate for being traded, J.Bush or one of the newly injured players might go onto IR depending on outlook, and I'm not sure if anyone would get outright released.

Meanwhile, I'm going to assume that WR Myles White gets brought up to the 53 man roster from the PS this week and the Packers look to tryout some additional WRs in order to sign them to the PS and if WR James Jones isn't able to go this week -- look to J.Finley to play as a slot WR w/ possibilities that TE B.Bostick might also get similar opportunities... just a guess though.

Overall, nothing changes from the philosophy of "Next Man Up".

I just heard that former Packer Desmond Bishop tore his ACL and will be out for the year. He really was a good guy and never trash-talked his former team and teammates like Greg Jennings. It's sad but it looks like with his torn hamstring history and now the ACL that his career could be over. Sunday wasn't a good day injury-wise for the Packers and one former Packer.

This could be our inactives against the Browns: CM3, Hayward, Starks, Brad Jones, James Jones, Cobb and Perry. This would be the best group of inactives in the league by far.

6'0", 190lbs, 4.4 speed. Broncos 5th round pick.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/tavarres-king?id=2539235

"BOTTOM LINE King lacks tremendous size, and his hands have also been an issue at times, allowing potential big plays to slip through his fingers. However, he's a very fluid player, with impressive quickness and balance. He should be a mid-round selection."

Not good, but if it's not a Lisfrac fracture (the injury that ended Benson's year in 2012), then he's probably only out for around a month. I'm hoping it's a hairline fracture of a metatarsal and will be good as new in 3-4 weeks.
