Packers Jerel Worthy Acknowledges Offseason Back Surgery

Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Jerel Worthy spoke about his injury back injury for the first time on Wednesday.

According to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

The third-year defensive end has missed all of training camp, and OTAs/minicamp before that, after "a couple little things got out of place in my lower spine" while weightlifting.

Without elaborating, Worthy added that he did have a surgical procedure done before the Packers' first May OTA.

Worthy said he could be back as early as Thursday or at some point next week, but that it was ultimately up to general manager Ted Thompson. The Michigan State product was placed on the team's Non-Football Injury (NFI) on the eve of training camp.

Wow, I had written him off as Justin Harrell Part II last week, but this revelation gives me a glimmer of hope. We need some 1st down run defenders on the DE rotation. It's just a glimmer...we'll see.

Back issues can linger. I hope the surgery fully cleared the issues and Worthy being on PUP is something long forgotten by the time camp ends.

He is Justin Harrell version 2.0, a very slight upgrade with 2 career sacks vs none but with a torn ACL and lower back disk surgery all of the similarities are there..

Yawn! Can't believe this bum is still with the team. If the Pack get anything out of him, I for one will be shocked.
Pre draft analyst had it right, they usually do its their job: "Worthy often went missing in games and took plays off"
