Packers Have Two Roster Spots Open After Releasing Jackson and McBryde

The team announced the release of a running back and a defensive lineman.

From the team

The Green Bay Packers have released RB Don Jackson and DE B.J. McBryde. The transactions were announced Monday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Jackson, a 5-foot-10, 208-pound undrafted rookie out of the University of Nevada, signed with Green Bay on May 6.

McBryde, a 6-foot-5, 303-pound first-year player out of the University of Connecticut, had been with the Packers since being signed to the practice squad on Nov. 18, 2015.

Jackson was waived with a non-football injury designation. According to a source, Jackson has a cracked jaw bone.

No word on McBryde, though he most likely failed the team physical as well.

As a result of the transactions, the Packers have two open spots on their 90 man traning camp roster.

Jackson is the surprise player to be released. Many were very high on him.

The number 3 RB spot is Crockett to lose, but the player I have said that I'm looking forward to watching that could unseat him is Brandon Burks. Burks brings really good speed to the RB position. He is a guy to definitely keep an eye on during training camp and preseason.

Broken jaw? Are we allowed to speculate on the circumstances surrounding this non-football injury broken jaw? If there's an issue that led to the injury, that could have weighed more on the decision to release him. Maybe.

Jackson had a troubled youth in Sacramento. Perhaps he couldn't quite escape the mean streets.
