Packers DT Letroy Guion to Appeal 3 Game Suspension

ESPN reports Guion was notified of the three game band last week.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky is reporting, per a source, that Letroy Guion plans to appeal his 3 game suspension.

Guion was arrested for possession of marijuana and a fire arm last February.

According to a source, Guion was notified of the three-game ban this week and his agent and lawyers immediately began preparing their appeal. The NFL does not announce suspensions until the appeal process has been completed, according to league spokesman Greg Aiello.

The Packers and Guion came to a contract agreement after Guion paid a fine in a plea deal to settle the case.

If Guion's suspension is not reduced, he will lose nearly a half-million dollars off that deal. He would lose three game checks totaling $264,706. He also has a roster bonus for $71,875 for each game he plays in, meaning he would lose another $215,625.

If Guion is suspended for the beginning of the season, the Packers will be down two members of their defensive line, with Datone Jones sitting out the first game of the season serving a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Could be worse and with appeal who knows. Not bad news at all.

The guy is a knucklehead, no doubt. But 3 games for weed? I'm really hoping that the NFL gets suspensions/fines/appeals taken away from self governance soon. There NEEDS to be a neutral party arbitrating this kind of stuff. It's SO inconsistent.

He had a pretty huge bag of weed...so 3 games doesn't seem that bad, but it sounded suspicious how the Police came to arrest him. The suspension will probably get reduced.

I don't think that's enough..

I'd suspend him form the 3rd Preseason Game, and the Family Night Scrimmage.

How does Goodell come up with these? Rolling a six-sided die?

Hardy gets, what, 10 games - reduced to 4? For some reprehensible stuff.

Meanwhile, Guion gets 3 for this?

On a somewhat related note - can we saw Florida off of America for once and for all?

Goodell and Merton Hanks get together, roll a couple, discuss the facts, the precedent, roll a couple more, and then when they're good and high, Merton pulls the answer out of Roger's a$$.

It's crazy right? Guion got caught with close to a pound of weed and a gun and gets 3 games. Hardy beats the crap out of a woman, throws her on a bed with a bunch of loaded automatic weapons and assault rifles, picked her up after he threw her down and choked her some more and gets his reduced to 4? Oh and he suffered last year not being able to play but was still paid over $13 million. Guion shouldn't get more than a game.

On the flip side if Thompson is looking at Gresham, maybe he should start look at available D-Lineman. Jones is out for Chicago, Guion is out for Chicago, Seattle, and KC if the suspension sticks and Seatle and KC are both power running teams. If nothing is out there now then hopefully TT looks for help during cuts. Wait a minute what am I saying, Ted looking at TWO FA?? Nevermind.

So, does this mean Tom Brady's suspension sticks?

Gresham in GB. I'd be in favor of that signing. Still young.

3 games seems excessive. I'd like him back in time for the 2nd game of the season against Seattle, so I am hoping for a reduction to 1 game. Yes, these ad hoc penalties seem arbitrary in the extreme. I am guessing Quarless gets a 4 to 6 game suspension. Makes signing Gresham more attractive, as Gresham might be better than Q when healthy.

Do people actually see these players working out for the Packers? I only ask because everytime we hear a FA is in Green Bay he's never signed. Ted prefers the stealth mode signing like Peppers. Get him in the middle of the night and announce it the next morning with our morning coffee.

I think the Packers do what they always do, use UDFA or draft picks to pickup the slack until the other player returns. Personally I think they'll do what they did in 2010. I think we'll see a lot more 4 and 5 receiver sets or even some packages for Montgomery out of the backfield. If Rodgers was to get injured before Q came back they'd be screwed at TE.
