Packers Daily Links: Woodson Reacts to "Tuck Rule" Proposal

Former Packers safety Charles Woodson says it's "'bout time" the NFL changes the "Tuck Rule." That and more in today's Daily Links...

When the NFL unveiled its proposed rule changes on Thursday, one that garnered a lot of attention was the abolishment of the so-called "Tuck Rule" which calls for an incomplete pass and not a fumble when a quarterback arm is moving forward to bring the ball in toward his body. Former Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson told ESPNMilwaukee.com, “’Bout damn time." If you remember, Woodson was the first high-profile "victim" of the Tuck Rule when he put a hit on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the AFC Championship game 11 years ago, which appeared to be a fumble but was determined an incomplete pass. The call cost the Oakland Raiders a shot at the Super Bowl.

More on the rest of the NFL's proposed rule changes come from the Green Bay Press-Gazette, JSOnline and the Packers official website.

Charles Woodson is waiting to hear back from the San Francisco 49ers, according to the Associated Press.

The Packers did not sign free agent running back Steven Jackson despite speculation they would. "Jackson agreed to terms on a deal with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday afternoon amid rumors all day Wednesday that he would sign with the Packers," writes Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jackson's deal is for three years, $12 million and includes $4 million guaranteed." By not signing Jackson, there will be not so much of a numbers crunch on the Green Bay salary cap. In theory, it will be slightly easier for the Packers to sign wide receiver Greg Jennings, but even that is not a given.

More on Steven Jackson comes from the Press-Gazette, ESPNMilwaukee.com, Packer Report, ESPN.com, Fox Sports Wisconsin, AllGreenBayPackers.com and Lombardi Ave.

News of Greg Jennings' dinner meeting with the Minnesota Vikings comes from Ben Goessling of the Pioneer Press who quotes general manager Rick Spielman as saying, "He brought his wife (Nicole) with him. I know he's very family-oriented. We want to show him what we have to offer." It's kind of interesting that Jennings brought his wife along. It definitely shows how seriously he's taking the situation, and that the wants and needs of his family are involved in the decision-making process.

Couple of nice rules for safety in the mix - no low blocks by offense when peeling off, penalize runner for leading with crown into contact outside the tackle box. Nice to see a little concern for the safety of the D guys. I hope these rule changes make it.

Changing so no loss of review if the coach thrwos the red flag on an auto-review play would be nice too. No game should be lost on a technicality like this. Coaches should be smarter - they need to have their heads clear and their emotions in check. But its not fair to the fans and players to potentially lose a game-winning touchdown because the coach got caught up in the moment.

I feel like helmet-to-helmet hits should be reviewable. Those are called incorrectly so often and it's an objective call.
