Heading into the Packers' third preseason game on Thursday, two starting positions in the defensive backfield are still unsettled. "This much the Packers know: Morgan Burnett will start at one safety spot and Charles Woodson will play alongside him, at least when the base defense is on the field," writes Chris Jenkins of the Associated Press. "Tramon Williams is their top perimeter cornerback." As for the other safety and cornerback positions, a starter has yet to be named. Head coach Mike McCarthy said repetitions will be split almost equally in the Bengals game in order to see all the candidates vying for playing time.

Running back Alex Green is nearing the point where there will be no more restrictions. "Green has yet to suffer a setback and Packers coach Mike McCarthy indicated during his post-practice news conference on Tuesday that the days could be drawing near where Green is back to being a full-time player," writes Wes Hodkiewicz of the Press-Gazette. The way things are going, it would appear Green will be 100 percent ready for the regular season, and the Packers could give him a normal workload, if need be.

The coaching staff and teammate Aaron Rodgers all threw their support behind backup quarterback Graham Harrell. On Tuesday, it was general manager Ted Thompson's turn. "I know there’s been a lot of criticism," Thompson is quoted as saying by Tyler Dunne of JSOnline. "I think Mike (McCarthy) mentioned that he graded out much better than you might expect. It’s not always easy doing the second half of a preseason game when the chaos is coming at you pretty good. He’s doing OK." As far as Harrell's two interceptions go, it's hard to blame him for those in the second preseason game. But he remains under the microscope, and his play on Thursday against the Bengals will be scrutinized.

Very quietly, defensive lineman Daniel Muir is on his way to earning himself a roster spot with the Packers. "Stout against the run, energetic in every drill and with some surprising pass rush ability, Muir has played his way into strong consideration for some playing time at one of the deepest positions on the team," writes Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette. Muir is helped by the early-season suspensions to Mike Neal and Anthony Hargrove, but winning a job probably hasn't come by default. He's played just as well, if not better than Neal and Hargrove.
