Packers Daily Links: Safeties Coach Perry Interested in Penn State Job

According to his agent, Darren Perry would consider the Penn State head coaching job. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Packers safeties coach Darren Perry is reportedly interested in the Penn State head coaching job. “If approached by Penn State, this really would be the only college job that he would take a hard look at and really listen to,” Perry’s agent, Chris Turnage, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. I've heard several observers say they want someone with no previous connections to the previous regime. Seeing as Perry played for Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky, Penn State may be looking to go in a different direction.

In other college football news related to the Packers, it looks as if former Packers head coach Mike Sherman is out at Texas A&M as well. "A prominent Texas A&M alumnus with strong ties to the Aggies’ athletic department said this afternoon that the decision was made today," wrote Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman on Thursday. "A&M’s board of regents did not vote on the issue, but have discussed this since A&M’s 27-25 loss to Texas on Thanksgiving night." It makes sense with A&M joining the SEC they want a new image heading into a new conference.

If you haven't heard already, the Packers have released details of the stock sale that is scheduled to begin on Tuesday Dec. 6. "The team said that because of legal considerations it would not discuss the offering until Tuesday morning," reports Richard Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "The organization did say shares would be available through Feb. 29 online and through the mail. They can be purchased with credit or debit cards."  Money raised will go towards the expansion of Lambeau Field.

More on the stock sale comes from the Packers official websiteJournal Sentinel, Associated Press, ESPNMilwaukee.com and Packer Report.

The public persona of head coach Mike McCarthy is covered by Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. “‘Boring by design’ is really my personal style with the media," McCarthy is quoted as saying. "I have one focus when I go to the podium, and that’s to keep things clear and simple for my locker room,” McCarthy explained. “I don’t want to get all philosophical, but (general manager) Ted (Thompson) and I spend a lot of time talking about the culture and environment and chemistry of your locker room. I think it’s very important for me, as one of the key messengers in this organization, to keep that as clean as I can." McCarthy truly puts the team and his players in front of himself. That's admirable, and one of the many reasons the Packers are seeing success under his leadership.

Mike McCarthy chose to cut down on practice time this week, like he does every year when winter approaches. "In the final third or so of each season, McCarthy shortens the players’ work by about half-an-hour on Wednesdays and Thursdays, including reducing practice by about 15 minutes," writes Pete Dougherty of the Press-Gazette. The timing makes sense, coming off the three games in 11 days stretch.

More on the practice schedule comes from Packer Report.

Defensive lineman Mike Neal is featured in an article by Kareem Copeland of the Press-Gazette talking about his return from injury and how close he was to his season ending. “Truth be told, my goal is to be able to just play,” Neal is quoted as saying. “I’m telling you, when I hurt myself and then when we found out what was really wrong — the amount of time that they said I could miss was significant to the point I could have ended up on IR." I'm personally not disappointed that Neal hasn't had much of an impact yet. But it should be expected to come. Up to this point, it was just about getting back on the field. Now it's time to make plays. Copeland has more in a blog post.

Both Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his younger brother, Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers, are interviewed by Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisconsin for an article on their relationship. "The ultimate cool thing for a big brother is to see your little brother pass you up," said Aaron. "For him to get a level where he's playing better than me would be my dream. I'm a competitor, and it's tough to say, but I think any big brother would love to see your little brother exceed your success." Rodgers helped guide Vanderbilt to a bowl game this season, a rare occurrence in Nashville, under head coach James Franklin, a former Packers assistant coach.

Tight end D.J. Williams talked openly about his decrease in playing time with Ty Dunne of the Journal Sentinel that has seen the rookie inactive the past two weeks. "On second and 6 at the Minnesota 12 with just under 12 minutes to go and the Packers ahead, 31-7, Williams ran onto the field late and didn't line up correctly, resulting in an angry Aaron Rodgers calling a timeout." Williams hasn't played on offense since.

Some under-the-radar players like Brandon Saine and Mike Neal get some attention in another article by Tyler Dunne and in a blog post as well.

Offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith continues to get publicity, this time in an Associated Press article.

Former Packer Will Blackmon plays for the New York Giants and will face the Packers on Sunday.

Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell says the Giants are going to hit Aaron Rodgers.

The Super Bowl XLV ticket lawsuit is still lingering.

Aaron Rodgers leads Pro Bowl voting, more on that from the Associated Press and Packer Report.

The Packers are focused on the little picture, writes Mike Spofford of the Packers official website.

Just a matter of time before assistants start getting offers elswhere. Perry has done a solid job just like all of Caper's assistants. Should he dicide to leave the Packers may have a replacement for him in house. I am not found of Collin's trying to play after spinal fusion. He would be a great choice to replace Perry.
