Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will appear as a guest on ABC's Jimmy Kimmy Live this evening. "The Packers quarterback is expected to discuss being nominated for Best Male Athlete in the 2011 ESPYs (July 13)," writes Rick Klauer of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Rodgers and teammate Clay Matthews are also nominated in the category for Best NFL Player." The show starts at 11:25 p.m. Central time.
This year's edition of the rookie symposium wrapped up in Bradenton, Fla. where all 10 Packers draft choices were reportedly in attendance. They were witness to an appearance from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and an inspiring speech from Herm Edwards. Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com caught reaction from Packers rookie receiver Randall Cobb who wrote on Twitter, "Herm Edwards just preached." Cobb was apparently a busy man who reportedly caught passes from Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett and helped draw attention to the art of "planking" when he was caught by camera at IMG Academies.
Punter Tim Masthay was interviewed for an article at KentuckySports.com where he shared some of his offseason workout details. "He spent a few weeks this summer in California working out at high schools and small colleges with former NFL kicker John Carney as well as Jets punter Steve Weatherford and kicker Nick Novak," writes reporter Jennifer Smith. It was also written that Masthay joined his wife's gym in Green Bay when he could no longer use the Packers' facilities.
Rookie cornerback Davon House was interviewed for an article in the Lac Cruces (N.M.) Sun-News where he attended college. The story talked about House's offseason workout regimen during the lockout, and his attempts at gaining a little bit of insight through teammates. "He has spoken with a handful of his Packers teammates - safety Nick Collins, cornerbacks Sam Shields and Tramon Williams and linebacker Frank Zombo - over the phone," writes reporter Teddy Feinberg. House has been working out at a gym in Los Angeles while waiting for the lockout to end.
An exchange between safety Nick Collins and ESPN Radio talk show host Colin Cowherd was detailed by Monty McMahon of Total Packers when Collins recently appeared as a guest on Cowherd's show. It was noteworthy for Collins' response to a question about the easiest quarterback he's faced. “You know, I’ve had my fair share against Jay Cutler,” Collins is quoted as saying. The Packers safety later said Culter was still good, but by then, it was a little too late to take back what he said.
Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson are listed as the best head coach/general manager tandem in the NFC North by Kevin Seifert. "All successful NFL men have some level of ego about them, but the important factor in the Green Bay Packers' leadership is that neither McCarthy nor Thompson appears to have ambitions for the other's job," writes Seifert. "Thompson stocks the team and McCarthy runs it as he sees fit. The best example of their ability to work together: McCarthy has never, ever expressed any public dissatisfaction with Thompson's reluctance to participate in veteran free agency. Many coaches would be outraged. Thompson, meanwhile, doesn't appear interested in questioning McCarthy's strategic decisions or inserting himself into daily operations of the locker room in any way." Defensive coordinator Dom Capers is listed as the best "schemer."
