Packers Daily Links: Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum Visits Lambeau Field

Santorum paid a visit while campaigning in Wisconsin over the course of the past weekend. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Republican presidential candidate Rick Sanatorum campaigned in the Green Bay area over the weekend, which included a visit to Lambeau Field on Saturday. “We’re going up to Green Bay today. I get to go to Lambeau Field,” Santorum told reporters, according to Politico.com. “Now I’m a Steelers fan, which is sort of a painful thing to say — but the history and the tradition of the Green Bay Packers, I’m very, very excited to go there tonight.” Santorum made multiple stops throughout Wisconsin in advance of the state's primary election to be held on Tuesday April 3rd.

More on Rick Santorum's visit to Lambeau Field comes from the Los Angeles Times.

Even though no signing has been made official, it could be the case that free agent defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove will join the Packers. "The Green Bay Packers may have agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove on Sunday night, or maybe they didn’t," writes Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. "Either way, Hargrove – assuming it’s indeed him – sure was Tweeting like he was headed to the Packers." Posts on Hargrove's social media platform included references to being reunited with Ryan Pickett and how he can't wait to do the "Lambeau Leap."

Head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson publicly commented on the acquisition of free agent center Jeff Saturday, which included telling the story of his visit to Green Bay. "As they got ready for dinner at the tony Republic Chophouse in downtown Green Bay last week, Mike McCarthy, Tom Clements and James Campen had to laugh," writes Jason Wilde. "It had been so long since the Green Bay Packers had wined and dined a prospective free-agent signee, the head coach, his offensive coordinator and his offensive line coach weren’t quite sure if they still had it in them." They also talked about Saturday's importance to the offense.

More on the organizational reaction to signing Jeff Saturday comes from the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

On the Nick Collins injury front, Mike McCarthy made a strong statement at the NFL owners meeting about the future of his safety. "If that was my son, if Nick was my son, I would not let him play," McCarthy is quoted as saying by Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette. McCarthy also wouldn't rule out his return either. A decision is expected from Collins in the next week or two.

More on Nick Collins comes from ESPNMilwaukee.com.

The proposed rule changes that will be voted upon at the NFL owners meeting this week are given a closer look by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The NFL's annual kickoff game–-which may include the Packers––probably won't be announced at the owners meeting this week like it usually is, according to Kevin Seifert, the NFC North blogger at ESPN.com.

An interview with former Packers wide receiver James Lofton appears at Fox Sports Wisconsin.

NFL Draft features on North Carolina State's Markus Kuhn and Wisconsin-Whitewater's Matt Blanchard are at Packer Report.

Calling for more free agent signings is Journal Sentinel columnist Michael Hunt.

Digging into the background of former Packers quarterback Matt Flynn is the Seattle Times, a newspaper in the town where Flynn now plays.

Fleet Farm renewed their agreement to be a gate sponsor at Lambeau Field for another 10 years.

A historic train depot in Green Bay with ties to the Packers is featured in the Press-Gazette.

"...which is sort of a painful thing to say — but the history and the tradition of the Green Bay Packers, I’m very, very excited to go there tonight.”

This is why the world hates politicians. Three sentences crammed into one. None of it makes any sense. And no guts. My God man, why should it be painful to say you're a Steelers fan? You want pain? Be a Bills fan or a Vikings fan. They've never won anything.

Sorry, but as a PA resident for the past two decades, I've had more than my fair share of Santorum. That guy is a lunatic.

In other news... I'm interested to see which rules changes (if any) are made this year.

" I’ve had more than my fair share of Santorum."

Ahahaha. Sorry Chad, my poor sense of humor. I'm sure you've heard the "alternate" meaning of santorum.. if not, Google it. You will probably never say you've had your fill again. Lol, once again, my apologies for my juvenile sense of humor!
