Packers Daily Links: Packers Favored by Nine Points Over Giants

And Giants defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul has already said New York will beat Green Bay. That and more in today's Daily Links...

The New York Giants beat the Atlanta Falcons in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday to secure a trip to Green Bay for the divisional round. And the betting lines have been set. "The Packers opened as 9-point favorites over the Giants on World Sports Exchange after the Giants won 24-2 against the Falcons on Sunday," writes Kareem Copeland of PackersNews.com. "The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Lambeau Field."

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said the Giants will beat the Packers in the aftermath of New York's win over Atlanta. "We know what's at stake, and we know it's one and done," Pierre-Paul is quoted as saying We aren't going to let that happen. We are going to go out there and give all-out effort, and we are going to walk away with a win." Guaranteeing victory has become so common, it's almost tuned out nowadays. But any amount of motivation and bulletin board material for the Packers should be welcome.

Parallels are being drawn to the last postseason meeting between the Giants and the Packers in the 2007 NFC Championship game, the last time Green Bay lost a home playoff game. "After all, the Packers are heavily favored again, the game will be played in the heart of a Wisconsin winter and the opposition is the one team remaining in the playoffs who absolutely won't be affected by playing outdoors in below-freezing temperatures," writes Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Several players from both teams played in that game, which will be a continuing storyline as the week progresses.

Not only did the Packers meet the Giants in the 2007 playoffs, they met them earlier this season. "The Packers played the Giants on Dec. 4, when they pulled out a last-second 38-35 victory at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.," writes Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Aaron Rodgers drove the Packers nearly the length of the field with less than a minute remaining to set up Mason Crosby's game-winning field goal.

Taking a look back at both of those previous two meetings is an article by Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com.

Game stories from the Giants-Falcons game are published in the Press-Gazette and Journal Sentinel.

Looking at the Giants' pass rush is Rob Demovsky of PackersNews.com.

The Packers need to bring their lunch pails when they face the Giants, writes Tom Silverstein at the Journal Sentinel.

Previewing the Packers-Giants game is Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisconsin.

Columnist Michael Hunt says the Giants could spell trouble for the Packers.

A home playoff game will being a lot of money to the local Green Bay economy.

The Packers' season is put in perspective by Fox Sports.

Outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene was named a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist.

Aaron Rodgers was named to the NFL's All-Pro team, along with cornerback Charles Woodson.

Why use it as bulletin board material. Hang a flat screen tv over the door to the locker room and set it up with a motion detector. Everytime someone gets close to the locker room it will start. Make it a really big screen, the more iritating the better!

Giants minus 9 ??? I am all over that spread like a pot of neckbone. Taking the Giants and the points is a no-brainer considering our swiss cheese defense.

The vegas math is that the home team, in a close contest, is favored by 3.

The Packers start at -3. But since they won at NY and by 3 (which is a 6 point swing), the starting line is at -9.

Honestly, I think you'll be losing money. Excluding the last game where the Packers played without their top 4 players, the closest margin of victory at home was against the Saints, where they won by 8. Moreso, the only game the Packers didn't cover at home was against the Bucs.

Why, against a lesser opponent than the Saints, in a do or die game (little possibility of a letdown a la Bucs) would that suddenly change?

Here are my keys to the game on Sunday:

1) CLIFTON/BULAGA - how much rust these guys do or do not have may determine the outcome. With two weeks of practice, I hope they're up to speed.

2) CHARLIE PEPRAH - like we saw again vs Atlanta, Nicks, Cruz and Manningham have been getting big plays all year long. the Packers secondary, and especially Peprah will need to keep these WRs in front of them.

3) WILDCARDS ON DEFENSE - Could be Brad Jones, Vic So'oto, Mike Neal...somebody unexpected needs to have a good game.

4) BJ RAJI - The heart of our defense, Raji needs to go after Eli like he the last helping on pork ribs at the buffet table. When he's a disruptive force, big plays happen.

5) THE 12TH MAN - I hope the crowd is especially loud on Sunday. Get rowdy Packers fans.

GO PACK GO

#2 on your list is my concern. We all saw what can happen when the Safety blows it last night when Ryan Mundy had his tremendous mental lapse.

Why does the N.O./49ers winner get an extra day to prepare against the Pack after the Pack beats NY on Sunday? I know, it's related to TV ratings and each network getting a game a day blah, blah, but in the post season after the byes, no team should have an extra day to prepare against their opponent.
If anything the higher seed should get the advantage.

THIS PISSES ME OFF.
