Packers Daily Links: Matthews Not Fined For Hit On Ponder

Matthews escapes a fine for a hit that was flagged as "late" on the field. That and more in today's Daily Links...

With Brian Carriveau on vacation, you'll need to deal with my meager attempt to fill your Daily Links void...

Pro Football Talk has a post on the NFL's decision not to fine Clay Matthews for the "late hit" he was flagged for on Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder in last Sunday's game.

Ty Dunne has a great piece about Sam Shields and his relative inexperience playing his NFL position in relation to his entire football career over at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Another good read from Dunne in this blog post about Edgar Bennett re-emphasizing blocking for his wide receiving corps.

Kareem Copeland of the Green Bay Press Gazette tackles the "it-must-be-a-requirement-in-newsrooms-across-the-country" assignment and breaks down the teams schedule after the bye week.

That Ty Dunne piece explains EVERYTHING I've been trying to say about Shields. He's a freak, and to be able to play the way that he does ALREADY is scary because he will get exponentially better with Chuck and Tramon guiding him.

FYI, we really are everywhere, and in #'s.
I was in Mexico last week for the queens game. Wanted to let everyone know I was worried about finding a place to watch it but found one in the 'Cabo Cantina'... probably a good dozen and a half Americans decked out ing GBP gear in that place. They had other games on too, there were a couple of Bronco fans and a couple Raider fans etc... but we ran that place, it wasn't even close, I was really impressed. Even turned one guy on to CHTV.

Got me a sweet ass Packer Pancho too. No seriously, the thing rules...

These phantom roughing the passer calls on all teams are really starting to harm the game. OK, NFL, we get it! You want 1000 yards passing and 90 points every game. We understand that. But is like political correctness run amok. Can't even hit the QB anymore. Maybe the QB's should have the option to hire Johhny Cochran, Barry Sheck or even Gloria Allred. They could have press conference about how their feelings got hurt and they're going to sue for having their rights violated. This is killing the game.

Depends on who you are, methinks. Fans like us, yes, it is killing it. BUT, not enough for people to not watch. I mean, a lockout, and here we are, sitting in front of the tube each week watching football. However, those that decide the rules in the NFL, those who seem hell-bent on turning our beloved game of tackle football into flag football, would say it's not killing it. It's...ushering in slowly, a new age of speed and points.
