Packers Daily Links: Green Bay Attends Daniel Thomas Workout

The Packers had a representative at the workout of the All-Big XII running back from Kansas State. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Kansas State's Daniel Thomas, one of the more highly rated rated running backs in this year's draft class, held his own pro day workout on Wednesday after lingering hamstring issues forced him to miss the school's official workout in March. The Packers reportedly had a representative in attendance. "The two-time Big 12 rushing champion worked through a series of agility drills, ran routes and caught passes from former KSU quarterback Carson Coffman," reports Joshua Kinder of the Manhattan Mercury. Thomas was said to have ran a 4.6 40-yard dash.

The Packers worked out Arizona linebacker Brooks Reed and two other Arizona teammates on Wednesday, according to Bill Huber of Packer Report (subscription required). "I think it’s a position that you have to be great at all three phases of the game," Reed said of the linebacker position. Reed is frequently compared to Packers linebacker Clay Matthews and is frequently linked to the Packers in many Internet mock drafts.

Green Bay will be hosting South Dakota State tight end Colin Cochart for a visit, says Evan Silva of NBC Sports. "Jaguars will be Colin Cochart's second official team-facility visit," writes Silva. "He's going to Green Bay next week." Cochart is the 32nd ranked tight end in this year's draft class by NFLDraftScout.com.

Also making a visit to the Packers will be North Carolina H-Back Ryan Taylor, says Silva. He was the Tar Heels' special teams captain in 2008 and 2010. Taylor is the ninth-ranked fullback in this year's draft class by NFLDraftScout.com but is one of those types of players who's as much a tight end as he is a fullback.

Several members of the Packers have been working out in their hometowns near their families. "Normally the players would be participating in the team’s offseason workout program in Green Bay," writes Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "With an owner-imposed lockout in place, the players have been forced to work out on their own, which isn’t always such a bad thing." Several members of the Packers are interviewed including safety Nick Collins, cornerback Tramon Williams and running back Ryan Grant.

Speaking of the lockout, Packers president Mark Murphy told the team's official website that he remains hopeful of an agreement while a class action lawsuit seeking an injunction against the NFL is going on. "U.S. District Court Judge Susan Richard Nelson concluded Wednesday’s court hearing in Minneapolis by saying she will take the matter 'under advisement,'" writes Vic Ketchman of Packers.com. "She also urged the NFL and its players association to resume negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement."

Ketchman also looks at offensive tackles in this year's draft.

A writer from CSN Chicago thinks Cullen Jenkins could be a target of the Bears in free agency. "Consider [Anthony] Adams along with Jenkins the top two signing priorities, ahead of center Olin Kreutz in some organization thinking," writes John Mullin of CSNChicago.com. This story has probably gotten far more attention than it deserves given that it's just one man's opinion. No one within the Bears organization, on record or not, has said anything regarding Jenkins.

Louisville cornerback Johnny Patrick was said to have had a formal interview with the Packers at the NFL Combine by Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. "Patrick was popular at the NFL scouting combine, conducting 13 formal interviews," writes Wilson.

Desmond Bishop and Jarrett Bush are going to be honored by the California State Assembly, according to Max Ginsberg of Purple Pants, Green Jersey.

Financially speaking, would the Bears even be able to bring on a top veteran free agent like Jenkins?

Based on their roster, my gut tells me they couldn't really afford him without something else suffering. Yeah, they need a great line for their defensive system, but they've already paid beaucoup money to Peppers and I'm sure guys like Cutler, Briggs, and Urhlacher aren't cheap to keep around.

Of course, I don't know many of the specifics, so I could be totally wrong.

Bears got rid of Alex Brown after the Julius peppers signing last year and a big reason was the money. Not sure they're willing to spend to get him.
