Packers Daily Links: Favre Comments on Rodgers in Interview

In an interview airing on the NFL Network, former Packers quarterback Brett Favre shares his thoughts on Aaron Rodgers. That and more in today's Daily Links...

When Brett Favre makes mention of Aaron Rodgers, it's news, such as the time when Favre was interviewed after the Packers' Super Bowl victory in 2010 and said he was surprised Rodgers didn't win it sooner. The NFL Network aired an interview with Favre on Tuesday in which he was asked by Deion Sanders about Rodgers. "I knew when I left, this guy has all of the tools," said Favre. "He can beat you with his feet, he has a great arm, extremely accurate, handles the cast around him perfectly." For the most part, Favre's comments were innocuous. But Favre also received some attention for comparing Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo to himself.

An interview with head coach Mike McCarthy appears in Packer Plus and JSOnline. Reporter Rob Reischel asked McCarthy about the end to last season and how it relates to the team's goals for this season. "That's not what I'm looking for, and it's not what our players want and that's really all that matters," said McCarthy. "If we can stay focused on what the group's trying to accomplish and continue to do the things that are necessary. We have a blueprint of success for the way we train, but it's a challenge every year. The team takes on a new face every year. There's a path out there for us to get to New Orleans and win the championship. It's our responsibility." McCarthy didn't say much in the interview we don't already know. He did, however, express a desire to do something "bigger" with his life when he's done coaching the Packers. McCarthy also added that he hopes that's a long time away, though.

Linebacker D.J. Smith had some odd comments to Fox Sports Wisconsin about his position on the team. "(I'm just) the No. 2 behind Bishop," Smith is quoted as saying by reporter Paul Imig. "Francois is Hawk's (backup). As far as I know, that's all I know." More than likely, it's just Smith playing coy. Perhaps Bishop's "mack" linebacker spot is Smith's ideal position, but it's doubtful the Packers would be afraid to insert him into Hawk's "buck" linebacker position. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers basically said as much when he said Smith can play either one.

Comments from Dale Moss on the competition at wide receiver are shared by Tyler Dunne at JSOnline. "With all the younger guys and the younger guys from last year, you can see it a little more," Moss is quoted as saying. "We’ll have a positive relationship but there’s still that little hesitancy. We’re all good and everything but you just don’t know who’s going to be there. We’re all competing for spots.” Moss was signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent. Barring injury, there' a good chance he won't make the 53-man roster. But he stands a good chance of sticking around on the practice squad. The Packers have a history of keeping a wide receiver or two around on the practice squad.

An article on undrafted rookie offensive lineman Shea Allard appears on the Packers official website.

An NFL spokesman calls the evidence "overwhelming" in regards to the bounty program, in which defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove is implicated.

A column on improving tackling for the Packers is written by Tyler Dunne.

An interview with former Packers return specialist Steve Odom appears in Packer Plus.

Packer Report has articles on their roster countdown and pressuring the quarterback.

Thoughts on rookie offensive lineman Andrew Datko are shared by Adam Czech at AllGreenBayPackers.com.

First Favre comment in like 3 years that hasn't filled me with unreasonable rage and caused bile to glurgle up into my throat...

Perhaps the healing has begun!

Yeah, it was kinda weird watching burt talk about Aaron... And heap praise. Good to see him acknowledge Aaron for what he is... Awesome.

And memo to coach:
It doesn't get any bigger than coaching the GREEN BAY PACKERS. So if you become president... Not as important. If you cure cancer... Distant second (but kudos if you do). You're at the summit buddy, enjoy it.

To each their own but my take is that Graham Harrell has my dream job. Brett Goode a close second.

All the glory. None of the work.

Dream jobs, sure those are. But they don't measure up to Coach in terms of importance.

Brent realizes now if he doesn't say complimentary things about A-Rod he looks petty. But in his heart, he still HATES A-Rod.

Let's be clear, Favre has been a douchey human for some time. That said, nothing he said in that interview can be argued with too much. Yet, you know someone is going to pull his words apart to draw some hate from it.

Great to hear from you JJ! I, like many feared your mom permanently grounded you from your internet privileges. Glad to see you got em back bud! Now if you just keep your apartment (AKA, her basement) picked up, we won't have to worry about you any more Champ!

Bye JJ!

oh Pack66 I see your deuchebaggery is still going on. We all know how big of a hard on you have for Favre and to be honest its kinda sad. To bad Rodgers has already broken some records he never even touched and is in the prime of his career. Don't worry you will get out of your mom's basement someday and even meet a girl if their not repulsed by your lack of hygiene

Problem is none of what Favre did on the field, or this recent interview, erases the later part of his career.

The other way around is also true. But in a marriage a treason can never be forgotten. Some haven't even forgiven him. Certain thing is it will never be the same, and it's his fault only.
