In response to recent news about Packers safety Morgan Burnett, the folks at Spotrac.com wrote the following: "He's not a household name when it comes to major defensive players in the league - but Packers safety Morgan Burnett has quietly and productively outplayed his rookie contract. News out of Green Bay rumors the team and Burnett are in talks for an extension to keep the defensive back around long-term." Spotrac predicts that Burnett will receive a four-year, $32 million deal with $16.6 million in guaranteed money. Sounds like that's a pretty good ballpark figure.

A feature on Josh Sitton becoming the elder statesman of the Packers offensive line is written by Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "With Jeff Saturday’s retirement and subsequent release this offseason, the 27-year-old Sitton enters the 2013 season for the first time as the Packers’ most veteran offensive lineman, a position with an average age of 23.8 years among the team’s 15 linemen," writes Hodkiewicz. Based upon his comments, Sitton appears to be embracing his role as a leader at his position, which is a good thing. Ideally, he'll be the type that leads by both vocally and by example.
The Packers hired a former player yesterday, naming ex-running back Tony Fisher as player/alumni senior coordinator. "Fisher, who reports to Cathy Dworak, the Packers’ community outreach and player/alumni relations manager, will work to build relationships with and educate current players and alumni on the importance of community appearances," according to a team press release. "Fisher will also assist with alumni on gameday, and will help coordinate the NFL’s Hometown Huddle project, Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowl-a-thon, Packers Tailgate Tour, Alumni Weekend and the Packers alumni news publication." Congratulations on your new gig, Mr. Fisher.

Tight end Matthew Mulligan is profiled in an article at FoxSportsWisconsin.com. "My strength has always been run-blocking," Mulligan said. "That's what I've done. My forte is not necessarily catching passes and running routes. In order to stay in this league, you need to have some sort of intangible things and I hope that's one of them." Wow, if Burnett is worth 32 million I'm afraid to think what Shields is worth, especially with Drew Rosenhaus as his agent. This exactly where Ted T is at his best, managing the cap. If he can keep Burnett, Shields, Jones, Raji, EDS, Quarless (if healthy) and Neal, I'd be a happy Camper.

It may be near impossible to keep everyone on your list. Although I agree. It seems teams can always somehow keep the players they really want to keep.

I think Jones is totally gone if he has even half the year he did last year. Cobb and Nelson are both going to become very expensive. Can't dedicate that much money to WR, we'll draft young talent.

If Shields makes himself that expensive it will be because he has a terrific season. If that happens I'd bet they figure out a way to pay him.

I'd be willing to bet that Sam Shields will NOT get another contract with the Packers. He'll be an over-priced FA. I think we missed our window.

It won't be 8 million, but it won't be 5 million either. I say a 4 year $27 million with $13 million guaranteed would be a win/win for both sides.

Ted knows his stuff when it comes to cap management. We don't like some of his moves but he's usually doing what is best. That Harrell thing still pisses me off though.
