Packers Continue Investigation into Late-Round Quarterbacks

The latest news has the Packers interview South Carolina's Connor Shaw and putting Tyler Russell of Mississippi State through a workout.

The Green Bay Packers appear to be heavily scouting the type of quarterbacks that will be available on the third day of the NFL Draft.

Although the description was vague, it was reported on Thursday that the Packers interviewed South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw, according to Aaron Wilson of the NationalFootballPost.com.

It wasn't clear if the Packers interviewed him at an all-star game or the NFL Combine or brought him in for a visit or went to his campus.

When healthy, Shaw was an extremely productive quarterback in college, with a 24-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio as a senior to go along with a completion rate of 63.4 percent while passing for 2,447 yards.

The biggest issue with Shaw was that in 2013 alone, he had surgery on his foot and both knee and shoulder injuries that forced him to miss playing time during the season.

It was also reported the Packers were one of three teams to put Mississippi State quarterback Tyler Russell through a workout on Thursday by Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net.

Russell was another injury-plagued SEC quarterback that saw success when healthy.

Between a concussion and a late-season shoulder injury, Russell completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 875 passing yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Shaw and Russell are the 14th and 33rd ranked quarterbacks in this year's draft class by NFLDraftScout.com.

The Packers were previously reported to bring in David Fales of San Jose State, Keith Wenning of Ball State and Brock Jensen of North Dakota State all for visits to Green Bay. They also put Jensen through a private on-campus workout.

Any thoughts about Casey Paschell from TCU? Seems like he had it all going before the alcohol issue and broken arm. Kid had lots of talent though. Just needed to mature and gain experience.

I've heard Shaw being called "the best pure passer" in this draft by more than one analyst. If he is still there (late) then he might be worth picking up.

Yea,you beat me to it.

His Td to int ratio is also great.

That arm might be an issue. Can someone actually work on that? Can someone increase their throw power?
