Packers Coach Mike McCarthy Has Strong Words about NFL Kickoff Opener in Seattle

The Third Annual Wisconsin Sports Awards ceremony, organized by ESPN Wisconsin, was held Thursday night in Milwaukee and featured players and coaches from around the state.

Numerous Packers players were in attendence with Head Coach Mike McCarthy, to received the Time Warner Cable Business Class Fan Friendly Team of the Year award. Media members were present as well and when McCarthy was asked about the Packers recently released schedule, he had a strong reaction.

McCarthy's offense was completely shutout in the first half vs Seattle in 2012. However they did score 12 points in that game. That's more than Peyton Manning and Broncos. But Seattle D is much better than they were in 2012.

Hopefully the offensive mastermind McCarthy can lead his offense to more than zero first half points like in 2012.

They have something called a running game now. His name is Eddy Lacy in case you missed it. The OROY.

I'd just as soon, if MM would keep his mouth shut about that Seattle game. I'm glad he feels the way he does, but I'd just as soon he keeps it to himself & his players. I don't want to hear "KICK ASS", "GUARANTEED WIN", OR ANY OF THAT BS" We want as little Hype on GB as possible going into that game. If anything, Build Up Seattle. LVT

Man Stroh...you really did a spin job on that. You're too much. I think you'd be good in politics.

When is the term "kick ass" ever synonymous with losing or a draw?

"Yeah, we kicked their ass, but we lost". Give me a break.

Try another spin. That one is not working.

Stroh, Well I have to disagree with you again on this one. What a surprise hey? Saying you're going to kick someone's ass, is quite a bit different than saying you're going out there to play hard & win. Those statements always seem to come back & bite you hard in the ass. Broadway Joe is the only guy I can think of who ever got away with it.

Now that MM has said it. It might be Best if he hammers it all the way to Seattle, & goes ALL IN. This is a Playoff Game. All or Nothing!! I'm sure the press won't forget this one, & I do agree with you, there will be plenty of hype on this game. If MM wants to Rattle them, then I think he should follow Broadway Joe's example, & Rattle The Whole Cage, from now until September, or else be Quiet. I think it's going to be hard for him to get away from these words. He knows the importance of this game. Hopefully he knows the Right way to approach it. LVT

I'm sure the network is already building the screen shot of that tweet. Please don't give those fans any more ammunition than they already have. That stadium is insane without extra motivation.

It reminds me of the "We're nobody's underdog" comment he made just before they went on the run that won the Super Bowl.

I like it.

I'm with you Otto. The Packers have been fricken ravaged by injuries 3 of the last 4 years. When healthy, this team can play and beat anyone, anywhere, in the NFL. They have one of the best running games in the NFL, the best QB, and trust and believe a top 5 defense healthy.

Arizona went in there and beat them with Carson Palmer throwing 3 picks. That winning streak they had at home ended last year. Seattle is a different club already with the players they lost in Free Agency this year and remember, Browner won't be playing because he got busted for cheating. It's nice to see some passion out of McCarthy and oh, they will kick Seattles ass.

4thand1, Saying "We're Nobody's Underdog", is a statement of Pride. Telling someone "You're going to Kick Their Ass" is at Best Arrogance, & at the least Extreme Confidence. Now that it's out there, LET'S BACK IT UP!! LVT

There is nobody more arrogant and cocky than Seattle. Just hope we don't lose a couple of starters on family night.

LVT,
You're wasting your time arguing with these homers. They're going to defend McCarthy no matter what.

Most coaches are telling their players not to do anything stupid like that to give the other team Bulletin Board material.

I like Russel Wilson, but I Can't Stand Pete Carol. He makes me sick to look at, ever since his F#@kin' TD signal at the end of that game. We need to Contain, & Get To Wilson. Defense, Defense, Defense.

I don't see ANY injuries this year on Family Night. That better not happen, or we should take a look at our conditioning staff.

Stroh, That would be Great if it all works that way. Don't say Contain is Crap. Wilsons whole game is getting outside the perimiters. "I said, Get To Him" That's a Nice way of kicking his ass . You're not going to get to him every time, when you don't, you need to keep him in the pocket/ contain him. You know what I meant. Wilsons a scrambling QB. If you let him Extend plays, he's going to beat you, just like AR. That's why he needs to be Contained. Nothing wrong with being arrogant, as long as you can back it up. Our Defense needs to prove they're worthy of being arrogant, & then I'm with you on it. In the mean time, don't say Contain is Crap, when it comes to Russel Wilson. You of all people should know better than that.

You're both right. Hit him if he runs (in bounds) and keep him in the pocket.

4thand1, If you go back to my very 1st comment, I'm pretty much in agreement with MM. I'd like the whole team to be Confident & Arrogant.
I just don't think it was a good idea to put it out into the press. I'm pretty much the same type of person. Now that it's out there, make the most of it. Hammer it home. I'd like GB to be Arrogant & Confident. Just make sure you can back it up when the time comes. I don't know about being Arrogant, but having Confidence is a Great Asset. LVT

Stroh, My words were "Contain & Get To Him" I thought it was clear. I meant not letting him get out of the pocket. If you think Seattle is ever going to keep Russel Wilson in the pocket, you're sadly mistaken. The only way that will ever happen, is if no one rushes the QB. Wilson is to small to be a pocket QB. No matter how much Seattle doesn't want Wilson to get hurt, I don't ever see his game changing. It Will Not change against us. We cannot let him extend plays.

Having rethought the whole MM thing, I'm kind of glad now that he said that. Coming from a coach, is different than coming from a player. at 1st I didn't see it that way, but it's a way to instill confidence in the team.

I always go against the grain. I want GB to be Favored that night, or at worst Pick-um. I want the $$$$ the other way. Let's see how it goes. I believe we will be favored, on the road at Seattle, probably by 3. The more the better. I'm sure you & all others will disagree. That's ok, we'll see what happens. I want to win that game. I may even bet it, if it looks right.

I don't want the players shooting their mouths off, but I can go along with MM doing it. And 1 more thing, Seattle will remember every word of this 5 months from now.

Look at how fast things change in the nfl. Rodgers got hit from behind and the season almost ended. Thanks to the collapse of the lolions & bearlies. IMO Barclay didn't finish his block after AR took off. Bulaga on the right side makes the o-line instantly a lot better. Any team that loses its starting QB will suffer. Seattle and SF have great D's to compensate but have lost some key people. If Denver loses Manning, they'll be lucky to win a game.

We're going there to kick ass...
(All work no play)

We're going to kick their ass...
(Arrogance. Conceit.)

Seems different to me. Anyway, I like it. This is a new man. I hope it continues throughout the season.

Your spin job is as bad as Stroh's.

Why try to spin what McCarthy said? There's no dumb sheep on this blog. People know what "kick ass" means. No need to try and spin it.

Now all McCarthy needs to do is get his offense to score more than 12 points. And preferably not get shutout in the first half like last time. It's tough to "kick ass" when you only score 12 points in 4 quarters of play.

Must suck to have a half empty glass all the time. MM gets snippy with reporters as he gets older. I'd like to see a little more Bobby Knight by him. In his opinion a reporter asking him about Seattle and how they'll play is an insult. WTF, why not forfeit the game and stay home? Some people in here need an ass kicking, IMO.

All you guys sound like weiners arguing over this (some more than others.) Even if they plan on getting their asses handed to them I don't want to hear the coach say he's hoping for a miracle. You don't gain trust and confidence in your team that way. it sounds more like a bit of humor than a guarantee anyway. Maybe he has a few new plays in mind for seattle but you guys make it sound like he has his game plan ready 5 months in advance. Geezus. Have some fun. Go pack.
