Packers Clear Roster Spot by Waiving LB Shaun Lewis

The subtraction of Lewis leaves one spot open on the team's 90-man offseason roster.

On the same day they added free agent linebacker Korey Jones, the Green Bay Packers waived linebacker Shaun Lewis on Wednesday.

The subtraction of Lewis puts the Packers back under the 90-man roster limit at 89 players, perhaps leaving room for a free agent like tight end Jermichael Finley, defensive lineman Johnny Jolly or anyone else.

Lewis was released just two days before players were due to report to training camp. He was originally signed June 10 and spent just two weeks in the team's offseason program.

Presumably, the Packers liked the potential of Jones more than Lewis.

Lewis is now subject to waivers in which a team could pick him up and inherit the contract he originally signed with the Packers.

The other 31 teams have until Thursday to claim Lewis, otherwise he becomes a free agent and will thereafter be free to sign with any team he chooses.
