Packers Calendar: Wisconsin Pro Day

Ted Thompson is usually in attendance in Madison, but he might otherwise be busy with free agency this Wednesday.

More often than not, Packers general manager Ted Thompson is in attendance at Wisconsin's pro day event.

It's an easy trip from Green Bay down to Madison to see the in-state talent, but with the opening of NFL free agency less than 24 hours ago, Thompson might otherwise be busy on Wednesday.

Deals are done with Randall Cobb, Scott Tolzien and Bryan Bulaga, but now attention turns to Tramon Williams and the rest of the free-agent class.

Williams was last heard from Tuesday night, visiting the New Orleans Saints. And now observers are watching to see if they'll let him leave town without a contract in hand.

As a Louisiana native and former Louisiana Tech player, Williams might be enticed by returning to his roots.

The longer Williams is on the open market, the more likely it becomes that he'll return to the Packers.

Other teams that had interest in Williams such as the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles have already spent big dollars at the cornerback position in free agency, signing Cary Williams and Byron Maxwell respectively. Their alleged interest in Williams may have waned.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Williams isn't the only player the Saints are courting:

The final variable in the formula is how much money Williams will command. At 32 years old, it's possible Williams will have to alter his asking price.

Whatever happens in free agency, the Packers will almost assuredly have a representative at Wisconsin's pro day, maybe just not Thompson.

It's a busy day on the pro-day circuit on Wednesday, and Packers scouts will have their schedules full. Other stops include Alabama, Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Louisville, Rutgers, Colorado State, Cincinnati, Marshall, Central Arkansas, Eastern Washington and Emporia State.

I imagine TT will keep his attendance tradition alive. He's got a cell phone.
