Packers Calendar: Tryout Players Arrive in Green Bay

Also on Thursday, Bart Starr appears at a fundraiser for Augustana College athletics in South Dakota.

While several draft choices and other undrafted free agents started arriving in Green Bay for orientation almost immediately after the NFL Draft ended, those taking part in rookie minicamp on a tryout basis this weekend start arriving on Thursday based on our conversation with Temple punter Paul Layton.

"I'm getting in at noon on Thursday, and we're getting right into meetings and everything on Thursday and then on-field Friday and Saturday," said Layton on Wednesday during an appearance on Railbird Central.

Before the on-field work begins on Friday, Thursday is also setting up to be a day that contracts for several of the Packers' draft choices will be consummated.

"Several agents of the Packers' draft choices said they expected contracts for their clients to be signed in the next couple of days barring unforeseen circumstances," writes Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Seventh-round pick Jeff Janis already signed his contract on Wednesday and fifth-rounder Jared Abbrederis reportedly agreed to a deal.

It may take some extra time for the Packers' first and second round draft choices—Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Davante Adams—to sign their slightly more complicated deals, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the rest of the team's draft class sign on the dotted line either Thursday or before taking the field on Friday.

Last year, the Packers had all their draft picks except for Datone Jones and Eddie Lacy signed in time for the start of rookie minicamp.

Also on Thursday, former Green Bay Packers player and coach Bart Starr will appear at the annual Jeans and Jewels Celebrity Party to support Augustana College athletics in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Taking place at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m., Starr will be available for photographs at 6:00 and then do a Q&A session at 8:00.

Tickets are $500 per individual or $1,000 per couple. Contact the athletic department at 605.274.4311 or [email protected].

Finally, former Green Bay Packers player Gilbert Brown coaches the Green Bay Chill in a match against the Las Vegas Sin on Thursday evening as part of the Legends Football League for women.

The game takes place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas at 8:00 p.m. PT and can be streamed online on YouTube.
