Packers Calendar: Training Camp Officially Opens

There's no practice today, but the team can conduct physicals, meetings, classroom instruction and conditioning.

Here's what's on tap in a busy day today:

  • The Packers open training camp. Although there will be no practice, the team is allowed to conduct physicals, meetings, classroom instruction and conditioning.
  • As of 6:00 p.m., they can sign free agents. Handshake deals like Mason Crosby's can be made official.
  • They can also renegotiate contracts of players currently under contract. Unless Mark Tauscher is dead set on competing for a job this season, I can't see these happening immediately.
  • The Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer takes place culminating in a tailgate party in the Lambeau Field parking lot, open to the public for a nominal fee. In the past players have shown up and signed autographs.
  • Readings of the Lombardi play continue at the Fox Cities PAC in Appleton at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • The official Green Bay Packers Youth Football Camps conclude in Madison and Elm Grove, Wis.
