Packers Calendar: Raji, Guion Signings Still to Be Made Official
The signings of a pair of defensive linemen are expected to be announced on Tuesday after news leaked on Monday.
Even though news leaked that the Green Bay Packers agreed to one-year deals with defensive lineman B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion on Monday, their signings did not appear on the NFL's transaction report nor were they announced by the team.
There could be several reasons that these signings have not yet become official.
Each player might have agreed on the general parameters of the deal, but specific language—such as incentives—were still being worked out. Or if a player was traveling, he maybe didn't have time to sign the contract yet. Or perhaps he just didn't sign it until after the deadline for Monday's transaction report.
Whatever the reason, the signings are likely to become official on Tuesday, assuming all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.
Meanwhile, on the pro-day circuit, one event in particular will receive a lion's share of the attention.
Thanks to the presence of ballyhooed quarterback Jameis Winston, Florida State's pro day will be televised live on ESPNU from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
The talent at Florida State goes far beyond Winston, however.
At cornerback, the Seminoles have a pair of potential first-round picks between P.J. Williams and Ronald Darby.
Along the defensive line, another pair of players stick out with Eddie Goldman and Mario Edwards.
Skill-position talent is well represented by wide receiver Rashad Greene, tight end/H-back Nick O'Leary and running back Karlos Williams.
Amazingly, Florida State also had four offensive linemen invited to the NFL Combine: Cameron Erving, Tre' Jackson, Josue Matias and Bobby Hart.
With all this top-level skill on display, it should come as no surprise Florida State won the national championship during the 2013 season.
Other pro-day events being held on Tuesday include Notre Dame, Connecticut and Stephen F. Austin.
