Packers Calendar: Pro Day at Ted Thompson's Alma Mater

A pro day workout at SMU is one of three on schedule for Friday.

Considering Ted Thompson wasn't in attendance at the recent NFL Owners Meeting earlier this week because he couldn't travel, it might be unlikely that Packers general manager attends the pro day at his alma mater at SMU on Friday.

The workout at Southern Methodist is one of three on the schedule for Friday. The others are taking place in Atlanta for Georgia Tech and Georgia State.

SMU doesn't have many top prospects in this year's draft class, but their best is probably quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who transferred from Texas earlier in his college career.

Considering the uncertainty at the Packers backup quarterback position, it's possible a player like Gilbert could interest them as an undrafted type. He has prototypical size at 6-3 and 223 lbs. and statistically had the best season of his career as a senior, completing 335 of 504 passes (66.5 percent) for 3528 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Other players on display at SMU include cornerback Kennth Acker and wide receiver Jeremy Johnson.

I would like to see them take a look at Connor Shaw. I know he is considered to be a late round - FA type of player, but I like what I have seen from him.

Something about him reminds me of Matt Flynn.
