Packers Calendar: Decision on Quarless Due Wednesday

To make room for Andrew Quarless, there's potential that the Packers place Nick Perry on injured reserve on Wednesday.

The bye week is underway in Green Bay, and while the coaches might be at 1265 Lombardi Ave. today, most of the players have left town. The exception might be some injured players who are staying for rehab.

While there won't be much news coming out of Green Bay for the next several days, the Packers must make a decision on Wednesday on tight end Andrew Quarless who is on the PUP list but whose three-week window of practice time comes to a close.

The Packers have three options. They can activate Quarless and place him on the 53-man roster, they can place him on injured reserve and end his season or they can release him.

It doesn't seem likely that the Packers would release him. So basically, they're down to the two other options.

The most likely scenario would seem that they would activate Quarless to their 53-man roster, but that would require them making room for him.

One way for them to do so would be to place rookie outside linebacker Nick Perry on injured reserve as has been speculated recently. Perry reportedly had wrist surgery.

The upside to Quarless is still there. The disappointment from Finley this year creates more of an opportunity for him. Look at Crabtree this year. He is not a difference maker but has made some crucial plays for us this year in the absence of Finley. I can't imagine what Quarless "could do". Invest in him because he can also contribute on special teams. Furthermore, DJ Williams has not contributed on offense either. Get him on the roster.

Not to take anything away from Crabtree or give too much credit to Finley, but let's not pretend that 95% of the reason Crabtree makes those plays isn't because he's largely ignored as a receiver.

I'm not sure any of the three big plays to Crabtree would have worked if Finley were in his place...due to the attention Finley gets from the defense.
