Packers Blog Roundup: Brad Jones Suffers Hamstring Injury

Lost among injuries to Bryan Bulaga and Ryan Grant, Brad Jones sustained an injury as well in Sunday's game.

While the bulk of the attention has focused on the recent injuries to offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga and running back Ryan Grant, reserve linebacker Brad Jones also was among the walking wounded on Sunday. "Jones had a hamstring strain," writes Brandon Benson of Acme Packing Company. "He's playing mostly on special teams, but shows up on defense from time-to-time, though he only has 4 tackles on the season. Since he finished the game with the injury, it sounds like he'll be available next Sunday."

A similarity is seen between Packers defensive back Charles Woodson and Steelers safety Troy Polamalu by Andy Hayes of packergeeks. "One interesting thing I noticed last night watching the Steelers play the Colts was just how similar Woodson and Polamalu function out there," writes Hayes. "Both creep up at the line and then either blitz, run down a runner, fake the blitz and drop into coverage – etc. Both create nightmares for QBs as QBs worry about what they might do. I don’t think it would be a stretch to argue that part of the reason for the success of both LeBeau and Capers is their decision to use players like Woodson/Polamalu in these roaming/havoc causing roles. Just makes sense and at the very least – casts an annoying doubt in the mind of the opposing QB."

Pictures of the hold on Jarrett Bush on the infamous punt return from Sunday's game are provided at BrentFavre.com. "Like any smart team should do, Green Bay kicked it away from Hester," writes Brandon Rifkin. "Unfortunately, every member of the Packers coverage team still sprinted directly at Hester, who couldn’t have sold it any better.  Meanwhile, Knox did a dead sprint, made a fantastic over the shoulder catch, and dashed untouched for a touchdown.  Or it would have been a touchdown had the Bears not been flagged for holding."

More on the punt return appears at The Bucky Channel and Total Packers.

After one poor outing against the Bears, the alternatives to safety Charlie Peprah aren't exactly appealing, writes Brandon Benson. "What are the alternatives? Either M.D. Jennings or Jarrett Bush. We don't know exactly what we'd get from Jennings, but based on the preseason, he's about as good as Peprah. We all know what to expect from Jarrett Bush." There is one more option, and that's to use more of Charles Woodson at the safety position.

The Week 4 stock report from Adam Czech is up at AllGreenBayPackers.com. So are some observations from Zach Kruse.

Tight end Tom Crabtree gets some kudos from Rich Ward of PocketDoppler in his retort to Bears fans.

I could be way off but I think Bush would be a far better option at safety. His weakness has always seemed to me to be locating the ball in the air with his back to the QB. Plenty of his lowlights are when he has good coverage but fails to make a play on the ball. All his highlights seem to be (at least in my mind) when he has the ball in front of him. When he knows where the ball is he seems to be a damn good player. This could all just be perception or poor recall but even at his worst he is far better in coverage than Peprah. I'd be all for giving him some time there and seeing how he does.

Bush has the speed that Collins has (and Peprah lacks). Yes, combined with his issues locating the ball in the air, as mentioned above, he'd make a better safety than corner. Do you bring Brandian Ross up from the PS if/when Collins goes on IR? Looks like the Packers may be looking at OLB (when will Zombo be ready? Getting close to 6 weeks). If I were Brad Jones I'd still be renting in GB, not buying...
