Packers awarded two compensatory draft picks

The Packers will have additional selections in the 4th and 7th round of April's draft.

The NFL announced the compensatory picks earlier this afternoon, with the Packers receiving an additional selection in the 4th (140 overall) and 7th round (258 overall).

A total of 39 compensatory draft selections in the 2022 NFL Draft were awarded to 16 teams. Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents (“CFA”) than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. The compensatory picks are positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL management council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

The Packers are receiving their selections due to the loss of Corey Linsley and Jamaal Williams in free agency last year.

I expect both to be traded to move up in the draft.

I hope so. Also 2023 1st RD pick and maybe 2nd RD. We need to move up and get a day 1 WR starter who can contribute, and a very good TE. We are several years late on doing just that...not to mention DL starter and S

Stockholder, I seem to remember there being something in the NFL rules that compensatory picks can't be traded??? Does anyone else remember this? Admittedly my memory is not that good. :)

Edit: Nagler just commented in his PackersDaily that beginning this year they can be traded. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question!

They changed that a couple years ago. You can now trade Comp Picks I believe.

Think they changed it so they could trade comp picks to make for more trades, more excitement, more surprises during the draft.

Why on earth would you trade the 7th round comp to move up one spot in the 7th and not use it to select a prospect? IE...Donald Driver's and Mark Tausher's do happen!

I view the 7th as getting a head start on signing players you would otherwise have to compete for as an UDFA.

And in the 4th there still be outstanding value to be found in a draft deep at positions of Packer need. Trading both 4th rounders might get you up to the 5th selection in the 4th with good value still on the board if you stay put.

With the Packers pending cap volcano, they need to load up on players with cheaper rookie contracts.

Most every draft simulator called this months ago... Just saying.

Should be a great draft for the Packers.

Filling out the roster with young talent is always a blessing.

simulator had 134, not 140. I had Amare Barno going there. He's now in the top 90.

Yep. Old news. DraftTec's trade value chart has listed these exact comp picks for a few months now.

Kind of like the Packers.com...they don't "report" the news until the NFL Lords proclaim it "official".

Best one yet. I was trying to find out why Watson is lower on PFFs and espn board. His dad played CB.
