Packers 46-Man Roster Prediction for Week 8 at Saints

Sam Shields is listed as "doubtful" and Morgan Burnett as "questionable" for Sunday's game.

Here's our best guess at predicting the Green Bay Packers' game-day roster for Sunday's Week 8 match-up against the New Orleans Saints. Reminder, only 46 players can be active.

The entire roster is included. Those bold and italicized are predicted to be inactive...

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn, Scott Tolzien

Running Back: Eddie Lacy, John Kuhn, James Starks, DuJuan Harris

Wide Receiver: Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Jarrett Boykin, Davante Adams, Jeff Janis, Kevin Dorsey

Tight End: Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless, Brandon Bostick

Offensive Line: David Bakhtiari, Josh Sitton, Corey Linsley, T.J. Lang, Bryan Bulaga, Derek Sherrod, Lane Taylor, Garth Gerhart

Defensive Line: Mike Daniels, Datone Jones, Letroy Guion, Josh Boyd, Mike Pennel, Luther Robinson

Outside Linebackers: Julius Peppers, Clay Matthews, Mike Neal, Nick Perry, Jayrone Elliott

Inside Linebackers: A.J. Hawk, Brad Jones, Jamari Lattimore, Sam Barrington, Carl Bradford

Cornerbacks: Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, Davon House, Casey Hayward, Jarrett Bush, Demetri Goodson

Safeties: Morgan Burnett, Micah Hyde, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Sean Richardson

Specialists: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode

Notes:

  • Datone Jones has already been ruled out of the Week 8 game against the Saints.
  • Sam Shields is listed as "doubtful" for Sunday's game and is not predicted to play.
  • Morgan Burnett is listed as "questionable" for the Saints game is predicted to play.
  • James Starks is listed as "probable" for Sunday's game and is also predicted to play.
  • The Packers figure to have many of their same inactives they have for most of the season. Neither Scott Tolzien, Carl Bradford or Demetri Goodson have been active for a game yet this year.
  • Garth Gerhart hasn't been active for a game since Week 3.
  • Jeff Janis is predicted as inactive for a second consecutive week but could get the nod if Burnett can't go.

Remember the days of keeping Pennel inactive even though Raji was injured and Guion was coming off of an injury? How dumb does that decision look now, speaking that Pennel is now a lock to be on the active roster weak in and weak out?

The coaches also thought Brad Jones was better than Jamari Lattimore. How smart does that look now?

The coaches thought Goodson did enough to make the roster over Rolle, and now we lost Rolle while Goodson can't make the active roster even with all of these injuries. How smart does that decision look now?

Remember the days of Bishop not being able to see the field? Bostick still can't see the field, even though Richard Rodgers has really struggled. The Packer coaches have really proven that they will play the wrong players time and time again. I'd love to clean house with these underling coaches because we lost most of our good assistants. Joe Whitt rocks, though.

I don't know what you're talking about with Raji? He was placed on IR before week 1. The coaches gave Brad Jones every chance they could to hold the job, but he just wasn't up to the task. I haven't heard anything about Goodson or Rolle since preseason, so we don't which player will actually be better in the long run. Not to mention, TT has 4 starting caliber corners on the roster and Hyde who can be moved into the slot in a pinch. It's possible TT believes Goodson has a higher ceiling. Rolle performed better in the preseason, but it's possible that's as good as he will get. We all knew this would basically be a redshirt year for Goodson, Bradford, and Janis. I don't know why you would think Goodson not being on the active roster over 4 starting caliber corners and Bush, our special teams ace, who has played a lot better at corner than many of us expected, makes Goodson a bad player. That isn't indicative of Goodson's ability at all imo.

Bostick has really slipped. Anyone know why?

The coaches were right to stick with Guion. That was a good decision.

Tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot said last week that Bostick is making too many errors in practice on the finer points of the game, such as adjusting pass routes on the fly.

Before that Tom Silverstein had this to say about Bostick:

The issue is that Bostick, a former college wide receiver, hasn't mastered all the tight end assignments and Fontenot refuses to put him on the field until he does. If Bostick shows in a game he's not on the same page as quarterback Aaron Rodgers, he might as well head for the bench anyway because he's not going to see the ball after that.

"I need to feel more comfortable with the things we're doing in practice," Fontenot said. "I need to see that he's making split-second decisions, the right decisions. We're still getting there."

Fontenot said if a player is slow reacting to what Rodgers is signaling to him or expecting him to do in certain situations, he's not going to be trusted.

Bostick himself has admitted he's having trouble with the mental aspect of the game. There's nothing worse to a QB than a guy running the wrong route. Can you imagine the Dolphin game and Bostick not knowing it was a back shoulder throw to the corner?
