There was a play early in the game - a PA bootleg with Janis working outside from the slot, and Rodgers just never threw it to him, despite being reasonably open. Instead, he just threw it away. It's odd to me that, even in that situation, Rodgers didn't seem to want to throw it to Janis. That said, if Rodgers just felt like he totally doesn't trust the guy, then you would think they would play Abby ahead of him.

Also, I'm really surprised that RRodgers isn't a bigger part of the passing game these days, especially given all the injuries to the receivers. I expected him to be huge this year.

you are right. Also on the 3rd & less than 1, where #12 threw the long attempt to R. Rodgers, Janis looked reasonably open. Either throw to him, or hand off to Starks, but #12 has only certain receivers he trusts, and will throw to others only if he absolutely needs to. At least that's my impression. If he uses the name of everyone except for certain players on the team, then one knows that he holds a grudge or has some other concerns, and is not willing to try and throw to everyone who is open - or at least appears open to the un-knowing fan...

"...but #12 has only certain receivers he trusts, and will throw to others only if he absolutely needs to. At least that's my impression."

As WR's and TE's get lost to injury, as has been with the Packers to date, this is when a QB of Rodgers talent level 'needs' to get the others involved for the good of the team.
Ignoring a player, like Janis, because of 'his' trust issue needs to take a backseat as again witnessed Sunday, games are getting harder to move offensively because of it.Not throwing to a decently open guy,Rodgers forte' as often noted as being otherwise, should take precedent over the 3rd and 1 yd bomb as like to RR and keep the offense on the field.Even if the pass to Janis is missed,it still serves notice to a defense that Rodgers will not simply toss it up long with hope of a PI as like many of far lesser talent need to do.
Whether Rodgers has a personal dislike for Janis or any other should be moot for the best interest of the team and would make Rodgers appear more closer to a 'diva' than the QB we thought him to be as to character.

Yes, I completely agree with you, Taryn. There need be no more "reading between the lines" because it has become clear that Rodgers has either a lack of trust (what the hell did he do wrong to have Rodgers ignore him and then in the presser ignore the question about Janis and talk about Adams???) or just dislikes the guy
This may be heresy but is Rodgers now bigger than the position coaches and the Head Coach? It boggles my mind and it is getting harder and harder to defend his enigmatic behaviour regarding Janis

Talking about the post game press conf answer he gave? Yeah, answer a question about Janis by starting to talk about Davante Adams. Horrible answer, just say you need to work on getting on the same page with Janis.

Yep. Exactly to both of you. This is on ARod. You have to play with who is there. Yeah Jordy, Davante and Ty were out. Yeah Randall and James weren't right.

Get over it Aaron. Throw the effen ball to the open WR. You played ineffectively yesterday AND last week because you're refusing to do what needs to happen in order to win in the current circumstances.

I have no idea where this idea has come from. Rodgers has always been known as a great distributor of the ball - to even the detriment of a top receiver because he spreads it around so much. Yesterday 9 different receivers caught more than one pass each. (In contrast Rivers completed a million passes but he only threw them to 7 players) This includes Perillo and Janis who had never caught a pass this season before yesterday. He has always been known as I don't care who it is if he's open I will throw it to him. So I have no clue where you get what you're saying.

Someone mentioned that in a game played just within the past two weeks, ARod ignored a wide open Janis and took a sack instead while Rodgers was looking right at him. I can't recall if it was on this site, but I would be interested, if it was, for that poster to recall it again. I can't speak for the correctness of that analysis since I don't know what play he's talking about, but if that's true then ARod's got a problem.

I'm not certain, but it's possible ARod was going to RR on Janis' first long catch. The second, he couldn't ignore him since he was running along with him about five yards ahead. Think that's all the targets Janis got. It's one thing if they're throwing on rhythm or timing, but if the guys open then throw it to him anyway and go over the particulars later. Rodgers has said a million times he throws to whomever's open.

It seems clear to me Rodgers just doesn't like Janis. Don't know if it's on a personal or professional level, but I do think ARod holds grudges. Wonder if Janis said something derogatory about the Jolly Rodger in the team shower or something.

First, IIRC it was an author on this site that mentioned a play wherein Rodgers refused to throw to an open Janis even though it looked like he must have seen Janis as he was looking in his direction.

Last season I wrote that I thought Rodgers had some diva to him, and got pounded for it. I actually was referring more about his refusal to throw to an often wide open Richard Rodgers last year, but also Janis. Let us hope that Janis learns the position well enough to make this a moot point.

It all comes down to risk taking. Rodgers will not take risks, and feels it's too risky to throw to a young guy that might run the wrong route. Remember when James Jones turned the wrong way and AR threw a pick . One of the few times you've seen him blow up on the field. That was a few years ago.

Huge breakout game for Janis.

Yes, I have Jeff Janis derangement syndrome, but on TV he did everything well that I saw. In addition to the 2 catches, the block on the Starks long run I watched him make (4) other blocks that were not mentioned by the announcers.

Look, I will admit I don't know everything that happens in practice, but I do know Janis has the skill set to be a very valuable Packer receiver and ST player.

I get the reality check that knowledgeable fans make about Janis hype. Nevertheless I am a fan of his and I think he will be a great contributor to the Packers in the future.

Lastly, we can't play like that against the Bengals, Panthers, Broncos, Patriots and so forth and expect to win.

As much as I like James Jones, and he had the TD catch, and is gutting it out with a hamstring injury. I think I would put Datone Jones in there.

Datone Jones was outstanding. He has really been improving each game.

Other then that, I would agree with everything.

The Good: James Starks, Datone Jones and Aaron Rodgers. Why Rodgers? Because he completed passes to 8-9 different receivers and as usual he did not hurt the team against a very well prepared defensive scheme.
The Bad: Packers pass defense until the final play. Julius Peppers missed numerous tackles and was often out of position.
The Ugly: Horrendus officiating and Ty Montgomery's injury.

6-0, but we desperately need the bye. Get healthy and Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

Rodgers may be getting a bit weird in his glory. Why avoid Janis? Maybe it's a personality issue? Whatever, if Rodgers doesn't trust "certain" Receivers, then he's acting spoiled. You through the ball to win the game, end of story.

I'm sure it is not Aaron personal issues with Jeff. It is the question of knowing play book, as well as knowing how to translate plays from play book to the field... Something that we were able to hear and read from some Packers coaches as the problem for Jeff Janis. I'm happy that things starts to slow down for him. Every player is valuable, so Jeff is. He has physical attributes that makes him unique on the roster. He is not another Jordy! And he'll never be. But he is unique in some other things which should help Packers to have more dangerous offense... Also, Ty Montgomery, Abby, tomorrow Alonso and John Crockett, Rip, they are all of some unique feature. That is why I like a lot Packers roster. It is build to allow coaches so many variation to be unstoppable....

Capers bad? Don't know how much he could have done against Rivers. He was absolutely magical. Players were in the neighborhood and rivers had about two seconds to throw or less. Imagine bridgewater trying to operate like Rivers did.

The only time Jeff Janis hasn't exceeded expectations is in covering a punt against the Rams last week. With every opportunity he has proven a gamer. He's the most physically gifted receiver the Packers have ever had.

Janis could end up being the greatest receiver in Packer history. I'll go on the record as saying he will. He's better than Davonte Adams, he's a better WR and KR than Ty Montgomery. His lack of use and opportunity is a mistake.

The Packer needing to justify TT use top draft picks unnecessarily at the WR position is stunting the growth and play of the team. As is the gift and blind commitment of giving the job of starting safety to a liability in Clinton Dix simply because TT drafted him in the 1st round. Let's keep it real homers, you like Dix because he was a 1st round pick, wears woodson's #21, and "looks" the part. He's surely not "out of this world" because of his play.

1) the easy critique of Janis is that his hands are not great. 2) getting separation takes more then speed 3) running the right route is a bit beyond me unless the screw up is obvious - like when two receivers end up within three yards of each other 4) making the right adjustment is also normally beyond me. 1) is a problem 2) probably is as well 3) and 4) are reportedly problems.

I'm sure other teams will try those crossing routes(drags) for short yardage and goal line situations.

I think we should coach our MLBs (or whoever will be at or near the LOS) to reroute receivers.

On that 4th and goal TD pass, Julius Peppers and Joe Thomas just allowed the receiver to run across freely. If that receiver was slowed down even a tad bit, Hyde could have caught up with the receiver or even caused Rivers to hold the ball for another second or 2.

This Janis thing is out of control.
Rodgers has an interesting way of playing ball.
He sees the field like a chess master sees a board. Since some of you are going to speculate about some unwarranted "disdain" that is not proven. I will speculate myself to give you something to think about:
1) Perhaps Rodgers has a way to help receivers grow.
2) Perhaps Rodgers can see a guy that is playing out of position or running the wrong route tree that you can't.
3) I think Rodgers doesn't throw to a guy when he is open because he wasn't supposed to be there and it's a way of saying, stop freelancing in this offense or you won't get the ball. Some of you will think that's silly.....the dude is open. But think about this. Running the wrong routes will be a recipe for disaster eventually..... ie interceptions. These routes are predicated upon important timing.
4) I remember a younger James Jones repeatedly running the wrong route. Twice causing AR to throw interceptions. In AR's mind.......you are not open if you're on the wrong route. Of course until the play breaks down. Then it's all fair game.
5) Rodgers doesn't hate Janis. He is turning him into an improved and disciplined player. I trust our future hall of fame QB over a new receiver with minimal snaps. Janis will get his praise when he earns it. That is the Rodgers way.
6) This high profile receiver thing holds no water. AR had no problem throwing to scrubs like Miles White, Jeremy Ross, Boykins and others in the past. Just do your job, run your route, and get open and you'll get the ball.
7) Rodgers subtleties during press conferences like ignoring Janis......those are purposeful and calculated. Just as calculated as purple crush and saying god was a Packer fan. He is sending Janis a message. Don't get too big because you made a few plays. You will earn your stripes. He's more brilliant and subtle than any of you know. But I just don't see diva.

Rodgers is subtle, brilliant and calculating. Everything he says, especially in a press conference and about on of his WR, has a meaning and a purpose. I'm sure Janis got the message that was intended.

As for not throwing to open receivers... If a receiver is where he is supposed to be, when he's supposed to be, Rodgers will throw him the ball. If a receiver is running the wrong route and is open, there's as strong chance Rodgers won't throw to him. He knows the route combinations inside and out, so an open receiver who ran the wrong route probably won't be seen since Rodgers will go thru his progressions looking for the receivers in the places they are supposed to be in. Even running the right route incorrectly might mean not getting the ball.

Its up to Janis to get recognized by Rodgers and the coaches, certainly not the coaches and Rodgers to help Janis get recognized.
