Old Ball Coach Has Empathy For McCarthy

Steve Spurrier had some words of support for Mike McCarthy while talking about playcalling duties.

I love Steve Spurrier. Absolutely love him.

And Old Ball Coach was great Tuesday when asked about whether he planned on retaining playcalling duties this season. Unprompted, he brought up Mike McCarthy and the NFC Championship game. (It isn't mentioned in the article, but is in the audio. I've cut it and isolated the sound bite below)

Now, Spurrier can blow some serious hot air. But this is spot on.

I especially like the fact that he admits that he took the playcalling duties back in-game a few times after delegating it last year. You have to wonder if Mike will be able to avoid scratching that same itch.

This rules. Nice find, Aaron.

I hadn’t considered Big Mac’s ability to commandeer the steering wheel. Could be a slippery slope if he starts doing it more. I’m glad he’ll have four preseason games to try and get used to that lack of control.
