Oddsmaker Names Aaron Rodgers as a Front-Runner for NFL Comeback Player of the Year

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers stands at 7-1 odds to win the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award, according to online oddsmaker Bovada.lv.

Only Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III has shorter odds, checking in at 6-1. Rodgers is tied with Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones at 7-1.

Rodgers missed seven full games and part of another last season with a broken collarbone.

Packers linebacker Clay Matthews is at 25-1 odds to win the same award, ranking tied for seventh. Matthews missed five full games last season and parts of several others with both a broken thumb and a hamstring injury.

In other Packers-related prop bets, Rodgers comes in at 7-1 odds to lead the NFL in passing yards.

Rodgers comes in third in that category, ranking behind Drew Brees of the Saints and Peyton Manning of the Broncos, both at 11-4 odds.

Packers running back Eddie Lacy has 18-1 odds to lead the NFL in rushing yards, ranking tied for seventh.

Meanwhile, Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson has 28-1 odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards, ranking 10th in the league. In the same category, Randall Cobb has 50-1 odds, ranking tied for 17th.

I hate this award - it never makes any sense.

Last year Rivers won it because he "came back" from sucking for 2-3 seasons.

I know Rodgers missed, what, 8 games? With a broken collar bone. I don't see that injury or the subsequent "come back" as that noteworthy.

Jolly or Vick or AP - those are comeback stories worthy of praise, in my opinion. Missing two months with a "routine" break...not so much.

I tell you what...if Sherrod comes back and plays meaningful snaps this year, he's the Comeback Player of the Year.

To me it should be more about the comeback journey, not the profile of the player (which is seems to be).

Yeah, what is the criteria for this award? Perseverance in overcoming adversity? What's next, does everyone who plays this year get a participation medal?
