Nagler's Never Right: 2015 Season Week Seven

Aaron's NFL picks for Week 7 of the NFL's 2015 regular season.

I was doing so well too.

The last few weeks have been rough. I was doing well picking against the spread as well over at the OddsShark contest, and even that came off the rails last week.

At least I'm off to a better start this week getting the Thursday game right.

Here's looking to Week 7 for salvation.

Last Week: 8-6

Season: 61-30

Seattle vs San Francisco

Buffalo vs Jacksonville

Sammy Watkins came and went in the lineup and Tyrod Taylor will miss another game. The Jaguars get TJ Yeldon back and are actually starting to find their way on offense. But I still can’t pick the Jags. Buffalo gets the win while everyone in America spends the first half trying to remember their Yahoo! password.

Tampa Bay vs Washington

Matt Jones is back and Kirk Cousins should be thankful. Washington is at their best when they run the ball, play stout defense and don’t ask too much of Cousins. The education of Jamies Winston continues as Washington gets the win.

Atlanta vs Tennessee

The Zach Mettenberger Showcase will undoubtedly be a good time, but I think the Falcons’ offense will run away with this one. Falcons pull away in the second half.

New Orleans vs Indianapolis

The Colts will try to call plays that don’t make them the subject of national ridicule and the Saints will attempt to carry the momentum over from their win against Atlanta. Unfortunately there is no such thing as game-to-game momentum. Indy gets the win.

Minnesota vs Detroit

The Lions looked like an honest to goodness football team last week. Amazing what happens when you play to your players’ strengths. With Adrian Peterson ailing and the inconsistent Vikings offense unable to keep up, give me Detroit to win their second in a row.

Pittsburgh vs Kansas City

Landry Jones gets his first start in what used to be a very hard place to play. Arrowhead has lost a lot of that intimidation factor this year. The Chiefs offense is just hard to watch and the defense is good but not great and certainly not good enough to carry this Chiefs team. Steelers get yet another win while waiting for Big Ben to return.

Cleveland vs St. Louis

The Rams at home are an incredibly tough nut to crack for opposing offenses. I’d bet the Browns, for their own part on defense, will have nightmares of Todd Gurley for weeks after this one. Jeff Fisher’s group gets the win.

Houston vs Miami

Amazing what happens when Lamar Miller is asked to run the football and Cameron Wake is asked to go get the quarterback. Miami so clearly didn’t want to play for Philbin, it borders on sad. Houston is impossible to watch on offense. Imagine if Hopkins had a quarterback? The mind boggles. Miami gets Campbell his second win as head coach.

New York Jets at New England

I like how relatively quiet it’s been this week between these two teams. I really like what Todd Bowles is doing with this Jets team, but I tend to think his tendency to send constant heavy pressure comes back to bite him bad at least once in this game. I do think it will be close, but give me the Patriots at home.

Oakland at San Diego

The Chargers are a mash unit and have lost two heartbreakers the last two weeks. The Raiders’ young skill position guys are actually fun to watch and they have some real talent on the defensive side of the ball. Still, I think Rivers and the Chargers are due. Give me San Diego at home.

Dallas vs New York Giants

Matt Cassel gets the chance to throw pick-sixes for yet another team. The Giants will bounce back against the Cowboys here. Big Blue goes big against their division rival.

Philadelphia vs Carolina

I think this one plays out as a 17-13 type game in favor of Carolina. I just can’t see Sam Bradford going into Carolina against that defense and doing anything other than melting down. Cam and the Panthers will do just enough against a very good Philadelphia defense.

Baltimore vs Arizona

The Ravens are in absolute disarray in the secondary. Busted coverages are the main order of business and it doesn’t seem like John Harbaugh and Dean Pees have any idea how to fix it. Carson Palmer throws for three touchdowns in a game that never feels that close.

How in the world does NE put up 30 points and win the game considering they rushed for 16 yards on 9 attempts (including 4 rushes for 15 yards by Brady)? That means that other than Brady, they rushed 5 times for 1 yard!

Moreover, reports state (I did not watch the game) that NE receivers had 11 drops.

It very much reminded me of the Packers gameplan against the Chargers in 2007, when they came in knowing they wouldn't be able to run the ball, so they didn't bother trying.
