My Bet? Baring Meltdown, Manuel To Get Cut

Everywhere you look, everyone has a Marquand Manuel-Speculation-Story.

I really don't think it's that complicated. If either Peprah or Culver show anything on Thursday night, and don't have a complete meltdown, Manuel is gone. There's no way Thompson wants to keep a backup safety that doesn't play on special teams and pay him over a million dollars for the season. Manuel is being held out to avoid injury, which would basically guarantee his salary for the year.

This is the right move for the Packers. They have a lot of young, ascending players (to use coach's term) and it makes no sense to keep a veteran with such obvious limitations like Manuel. With an emerging player, you can live with the mistakes, as long as they show the ability to learn from them and continue to get better. With a veteran like Manuel, you simply can not tolerate mistakes. Add to that most of the other players at the safety position are far better athlete's, and it really makes this a no-brainer.
