Mike McCarthy Press Conference: Jay Cutler is Playing Well

The head coach of the Packers commented on the Bears quarterback on Thursday.

From Mike McCarthy's Thursday press conference following practice:

On Clay Matthews and his groin injury: Clay took his individual reps. I didn't speak to him, but he's looking good.

On Nick Perry and his wrist injury: Nick practiced today. Looked good at practice, did some good things in practice.

On facing the Bears minus Devin Hester: He's a great returner. He impacts a lot of football games. He's impacted some of our games in the past. I'm glad he's not in Chicago, but we'll see him down in the road in Atlanta.

They're still good on special teams. Good speed. Against the Jets they did some good things.

On the Packers-Bears rivalry: I always looked at the Chicago series, you usually get to play one in good weather and one in bad weather. They're usually two different types of games.

On Jay Cutler under Marc Trestman: He's playing ver well. He's coming off a very good year. He obviously missed some games last year, but he had good numbers ... Marc's a good coach, and he's doing a heck of a job.

On the win in Chicago last season: What I remember were a couple  of third and shorts we didn't convert, but we made some fourth downs. … Just the way we played it, 28-27 with six minutes left. Ypu wanted to score, but not too fast.

On Davon House: I thought he arrived last training camp, where you felt this guy is going to jump up and claim a starting position. … He has long arms, and I really ilke the way he's aggressive with the receiver. And the way he's tracked the ball is good. He's made some good plays.

On the Bears receivers: You've got a big, physical group there that are big targets. … It's defintely going to be a big challenge when you play the big body types like that.

On Packers receivers getting open: We've played three games. We've had two games that were not up to the standard we've had in the past. … I think our receiving group is getting better, but our offense needs to get going, and it starts with me. … I think Jordy and Randall have been like they always have, very consistent.

On slow starts to the season: I could tell you factors and things I focus on, but they would just be viewed as excuses. ... Special teams has probably been our most consistent group of the year. … I think after we review the tape, we'll feel ilke we got better today.

On Julius Peppers: He's definitely everything i thought he would be and he's getting more comfortable. … It's getting more accustomed to the guy next to you, whether it's a stunt, whether he's the first guy through, second guy through, third. … You need those full-speed half line drills and those pass under pressure drills.

Regarding inactives, need to go from 52 (currently) to 46. The perpetual inactives include Tolzien, Bradford and Goodson. Surprise possibilities include someone injured or a ST guy like Bush, Ryan Taylor, Richardson (didn't play much last week for some reason) or even Kuhn, I suppose. Barring the above surprises, need 3 more from a list that might include the following:

Gerhart (Perpetual inactive when Tretter returns)
Lane Taylor (Perpetual inactive when Tretter returns?)
Janis
Pennel
Elliott

So far, Gerhart and Lane Taylor have been active for every game.
