Mike McCarthy on Eddie Lacy: I Pulled Him in the Middle of Practice

The Packers running back was listed on Thursday's injury report with a knee injury.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Thursday afternoon in advance of the upcoming NFC Championship game at Seattle.

The following are select comments from his press conference:

  • On Eddie Lacy being listed on the injury report: Eddie Lacy's knee is sore. I was just being conservative. I pulled him in the middle of practice.
  • On Lacy's status: I think Eddie will be ready to go Sunday. The coach is nervous.
  • On Thursday's practice: A lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm. … I was pleased with the practice.
  • On Bryan Bulaga being injured in Week 1 vs. Seattle: Injuries are part of the game. You have to overcome them. We didn't do a very good job handling that. … The continuity our offensive line is impressive.
  • On Bulaga bouncing back: I'm very proud of what Bryan has been able to overcome in his injuries. He deserves everything that's come to him.
  • On Aaron Rodgers and his calf injury: Aaron Rodgers participated in the second part of practice. … He went through two team periods.
  • On comparing Rodgers' participation to last week: I don't do comparisons. He's getting ready to play.
  • On the team's leadership: I think we have excellent leadership. … If you want a comparison to last year, I think the most improvement I've seen from our team is leadership.
  • On picking playoff captains before the playoffs: When i look at developing our football team, you can't designate leadership … With that, I think it's worked out great.
  • On We're an athletic bunch up front. Part of it, I think it's a fast track up there. … It's about staying true to who you are. We're not going to invent anything this week. … We're going to go get it.
  • On captains speaking to the team: I have a plan. We're going to have a team meeting Saturday night like we always do.
  • On the rationale for leaving for Seattle on Friday: A number of different reasons. It's a four-hour plane flight. … It's an incredible commitment from the organization. … This giving us the best chance to prepare.
  • On practicing Saturday in Seattle: We actually took a couple things out of the Saturday workout I didn't think we'd be able to accomplish in Seattle.
  • On where the team will practice: We're looking at some indoor facilities. We've got a couple balls in the air right now.
  • On the team's tackling in Seattle Week 1: I think you know the answer to your question. It wasn't very good.

Wow !! Just logged on and this thing about Lacy just came up. Hope all is well. Eddie is a big part of the game plan this week. Going to be tough sledding especially without him. I see lots of quick slants and wide receiver screens in this game.

Slants, yes; screens, probably not. The hawks play very disciplined defense and their speed blows up screen plays.

Wait...what? I thought he didn't do comparisons. If those two statements were back to back, it is hilarious. I guess it's funny either way.

I saw that too. I think in his mind those are a totally different type of comparison. The Medical Staff is responsible for Rodgers health, and any applicable comparisons. Mac is responsible for team leadership, and any assessments there.
