Mike McCarthy: I Only Worry About the Wind

The head coach of the Packers isn't bothered by the cold, but he is keeping tabs on the wind for Sunday.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Friday for the final time in advance of Sunday's upcoming divisional round playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The following are select comments from his press conference:

  • On Aaron Rodgers' practice status: Aaron came through the practice, everything okay. Feels good today. Obviously we're not practicing today, but he's progressing.
  • On if Rodgers would play if it was earlier in the regular season: It's a hypothetical No. 1. I don't think anything really comes of it. We go through the same process. If the medical staff believes he's ready to go, he's ready to go.
  • On how much Rodgers will be in shotgun: It'd be scheme, I can't talk about that. The shotgun definitely helps. … That'll help him.
  • On the weather forecast: I haven't seen it today. Is it getting better? .. I hope it's better than today. The only thing I'm worry about is the wind. And I'm told it'll be between six and eight miles per hour.
  • On Rodgers' mobility: He has that experience. It's been talked about. We have gameplan, but he looks like he's moving fine to me right now. We're not going to change anything in our approach.
  • On the possibility of the Cowboys blitzing: They have pressure in their scheme. It's not very high. But if you crank something up higher than they normally do, that's fine. … We would welcome pressure.
  • On his relationship with general manager Ted Thompson: Very consistent. Ted is so consistent in everything he does, and I think that helps all of us from a leadership standpoint. … I appreciate Ted Thompson more and more every day.
  • On Rolando McClain of the Cowboys: I was happy for him. I think anytime you see a player go through tough times, get a second chance to do what he's done.
  • On the Packers' scoring pace slowing down: I think running the football has a lot to do with that.
  • On the team's fast starts: I think fast starts are not just one thing. I think it's a combination of things. No. 1, the ability to play in Lambeau Field. … I think our football team is built for Lambeau. I think the fact that we've been able to run and pass, be efficient. … We spend a lot of time on starter plays, the first 15 plays. … I think it's a bunch of things.
  • On whether he'll watch the Seahawks-Panthers game: We have a team meeting at nine, chapel at 8:30. Personally, Im going to go right to bed. …. I personally won't watch it.
  • On Ron Wolf and Kevin Greene's eligibility for the Hall of Fame: We're all excited about Ron Wolf's opportunity and Kevin Greene's. … We're definitely hoping that works out for him. … You look at the Green Bay Packers and I know what I've been able to accomplish, I always look at Ron Wolf and Bob Harlan and Mike Holmgren for setting the foundation. … I know (Greene's) been close a couple of times.
  • On Eddie Lacy's carries: You have a plan. I never went into a game the first eight weeks and said Eddie's only going to carry the ball ten times. … We had some games when we had the ball for 57 plays, so there's other factors involved. … One thing I was very conscious of was his workload throughout the year because of what he went through last year.
  • On young players that weren't around for Super Bowl XLV: It's huge. When you see Mike Daniels start to grow, Morgan Burnett, I think it speaks volume about the culture. … When Morgan Burnett was voted captain, I was very proud of him for that. … When you're a draft and develop program, these men don't walk into your locker room and they have leadership capability.

You know, deep down, classy McCarthy just wants to say we're going to throttle these guys with all we got. And then, if things are tight, I'm gonig to throw a new look or formation I haven't used yet this year. We haven't seen the Randall Cobb pass (or flea flicker) this year and we may very well see is Sunday.

We are going to throttle them. The only way Dallas beats us is in a shootout that everything goes wrong in. Uncharacteristic turnovers, more ST blocking gaffes, drops, the whole 9 yards.

Dallas is a good team, but they aren't in Green Bay's ballpark.

I was confident the Packers would take care of the Lions 2 weeks ago, and they'll take care of Dallas tomorrow. All the cameras will be on Christie and Jones, did you see that embarrassing shit? The world never wants to see that happen again.
