After reading most of the comments on the last 3 or so blogs, I really don't understand why most are apalled and surprised by the Pack's 1-2 start. The Pack haven't beaten a team that finished the season with a winning record since 2012. ---- I'm guessing both the Hawks & Lions will finish this season on the plus side. --- Check out the schedule. If this trend continues through the entire season, GB will be hard-pressed to finish 8-8.

You can't just beat up on the scrubs. You have to have a few quality wins to be considered a true contender.

Cow I hate admit but I beginning to believe as long as MM is in Green Bay the Packers won't sniff the SB. On NFL.Com McCarthy actually said Lacy needs to play better when referring to the Safety. McCarthy you moron, you have one of the worst O-Lines in football, have Lacy lined up 7 yards deep against a D-Line that was whooping your butts all day! Only a desperate coach, one that knows he's losing his team would "Throw" his RB under the bus. McCarthy needs to talk about fundamentals, coaching fundamentals. Like maybe calling a screen pass or I know, one of those bunch formations. Wait, I see, you still are running the same plays you did when Philbin was here. No creativity for Mike.

Actually I'm just used to the Packers starting out 1-2 every season. If this continues, I'll start to worry. It's all about peaking in December anyways.

For the first time I saw Rodgers looking at the rush and not down field The lions has him worried for some reason from the get go. Let him have his metrodome in Detroit but don't start singing the death March on a team that might just have a defense.

After 3 games.
The Offense seems to be regressing.
The Defense seems to improving.
The team seems to be unprepared to start the season.
This team seems to be always fixing a problem that holds them back.
This seems like every other team in the NFL.

Good lord, Bob McGinn broke the smug meter in his game summary this morning. He sounds like a jilted spouse after loses, and it's reaching parody level smugness.

The ebb and flow of Bob's language during wins and losses has become its own entertainment. He sounds like a jilted fan in losses and hyperbolic in his praise (it goes beyond superlative) when the team is hot. I agree with some of the general sentiments, sure. Other parts are exaggerated and resonate with guys like you. It's a long season. If they get hot, I'll wait for his anonymous scouts to offer escalating praise. If things go south, those same anonymous scouts will condemn everybody in 'hindsight'.

Best part for Mcginn, he never has to walk anything back because they're not his opinions. I used to enjoy his insight, now it's just throwing shade at the whole analysis bit. You amuse me cow, just like Bob. Everybody has their own way to troll a reactionary public after all.....

Quoting Ron Wolf doesn't count.

In fact, it borders on plagiarism, and is punishable by a fine of up to 500 gallons of chocolate milk, and/or 5 years of Jacksonville Jaguars season tickets.

McGinn tries to be a Classic Reporter. He likes to avoid having own opinions, he likes to report on what others whom he feels are more qualified than himself have to say. Whether you appreciate that or not is up to you.

He doesn't strike a neutral tone during the ups and downs throughout a season like classic journalists do. His verbiage is increasingly inflammatory. Again, I agree with much of the general sentiment. The tone is pure trolling for @JScomments readers.

House was very good. But his interception actually ended up hurting the Packers.

I still don't get that ruling on the field. I get that he was down at the 1, but he wasn't touched, and his momentum carried him into the endzone. He got up tried running then was tackled in the endzone. I thought that was going to be a touch back. Just doesn't make sense to me.

That was the turning point in the game.

Per the rules it was the correct call:

"Player intercepts a pass with both feet inbounds in the field of play and his momentum carries him into his own end zone. Ball is put in play at spot of interception. "

Because the momentum rule listed above was put in place to keep exactly this type of play from being a safety.

Knee jerk reaction or not, I grow tired of anticipating the play calls on offense before they are snapped. The play call of running Lacy out of the endzone was predictable and against the Lions' defensive line, was a little much to ask out of our offensive line.

Again, situational awareness. Why audible to a rookie Tight Ends side and your right tackle that's coming off an MCL and functioning at about 70%?

I would have to go back and look at it, but wasn't the CB off the WR about 5 yards on the left side of the formation of that play?

Just saying, would have been a great time to check to a simple slant pattern.

Sure it's situational football, but what about play action and roll Rodgers out while the D-line is pummeling Lacy. He can scramble, throw it away if need be or throw to a receiver. I know it's all hindsight but the Packers keep getting burned by a little misdirection, why can't we use it as well?

I'm sick of MM. He said in his presser that "our offense takes advantage of the defense" and "they played alot of 2 shell". In that case, if they have backups at 2 of 4 DB spots and a backup ILB in for Tulloch, why don't you repeatedly attack the middle of the field? They just didn't, flat out. We should have passed all over them.

My thought: without Jermichael Finley to attack the seam and be a target in the middle of the field, this coaching staff is clueless how to operate now. Jordy is not going to see any less double coverage now.

This has nothing to do with not having J-Mike.
We can't pass all over teams because we have an O line that can't handle physical front 4's, and we have a skittish QB1 right now because of it. To compensate, we have to use our TE as blockers which takes away our attacking of the seam.
Basically it comes down to O line. If we lose in the trenches, we can't run the entire playbook and attack defenses like we are capable. We have to win individual battles up front in order for us to win. They weren't good enough today and we lost.

Have to agree. This is what we are now. Need to fix the line NOW. Btw are we still waiting and hoping Bulaga will be back and not get hurt again. What then.

All the more reason we have to stop calling the same "MM" plays we have all grown accustomed to. Aaaargh

We shouldn't try and make excuses for this team.
The game isn't always played on the field. A lot of what's taking place is off field.
Ted had the opportunity to help the O line via free agency and bet on Bulaga, Sherrod, Barclay being just peachy keen this year, lets save some money here guys.
Ted picked Dix who should not have had that interception. He was played 5 yards back. Should have been coming up to help the weak safety sandwich the receiver. Dix is just standing around playing center field. His counterpart Pryor is knocking people's heads off and making tackles and sacks.
Davante Adams? The only thing I knew about him was the analyst said he ran a lot of slants in a spread offense and caught a lot of 5 yard passes. No other talent or speed.
Rogers, was projected to be a 5th round pick at best. Has he even caught a ball or done anything to improve this offense?
No the misgivings of Ted T is showing up finally. You get what you get.

It's still too early to make judgements on this year's rookie class. It's been 3 games, dude.

As for the O line, you can't predict injuries and you can't be 3-4 men deep at every position.

Bad take.

Pryor got injured twice, and din't have an interception.
Davante Adams is getting better.
Rogers, you got me there. Have no idea what's going on.
Ted got good draft picks. I dunno what you're talking about, but he probably should get more free agents.
Dude, I read some other posts of yours, and they're all negative. Dude, you're gonna complain eventhough we win the SB. Can't please veryone.

Favre had his Metrodome. I guess Rodgers is allowed his Ford Field. But aside from that, he just doesn't seem right. I count on him being the smartest guy on the field. I didn't see that guy yesterday.

Look for him to bounce back big against the Bears.

Rodgers' era Packers are 4-3 at Ford Field. Aaron didn't play in last year's loss there but he lost the game in which he was knocked out of via concussion in 2010. He was 7/11 for 46 yards and a pick in that game.
So, clearly not up to Favre-esque levels at the Metrodome yet, but I ain't looking forward to our game there next year.

Too early to push the panic button as we have done this slow-start thing before. It is frustrating that we continue to repeat the same slow-start thing in most years. I kinda lay that on MM and his coaching staff in that they just don't seem as prepared as their opponents. I'm still optimistic overall but if we go to 1-3 (0-2 in the division) then it's gonna get kinda dicey. Very disappointing to see this team under performing.

I not be a offensive genius like McCarthy but continuing to attack the healthiest part of the defense when the back end is made up of third and fourth stringers is asinine . Cover two or not.

well to further your point, they did that last week against the Jets. So why not do the same thing this week?

Spread them out, either go to 4 WR's and 1 RB or 3 WR's, 1 TE (spread out) and 1 RB, Get them into their nickel/dime defense and attack them.

I get using the run to keep the defense honest, but then why not use the RB's in the passing game. It accomplishes the same thing.

Its time we start getting back to what we are good at. Spreading teams out and attacking with fast quick plays.

I thought I read some quotes from Lions players saying that they would much rather have the ball in Lacy's hands than Rodgers', so they played with only 6 men in the box to stop the run and the rest in coverage. If that's true, then we should be trying to run - and succeeding.

Mashed Potato Mike needs to relinquish the play calling duties to a competent and creative offensive coordinator. The offense can't get out of their own way!! How can Tater and Arodge lose to the Lions when the defense forces 3 turnovers, multiple hits to Stafford and only allows 10 points???!?!?!? Here's another annoying common theme; Shawn Slocum's ST units continue to get an average starting field position of the 17 yard line while yielding an average starting field position to the opposition around the 30 yard line... Hidden yardage has killed the Pack for years under Slocum and there are no injuries to blame this early in the year!! The fact that McCarthy sticks with Slocum annually shows his stubbornness almost as much as his non-creative play calling and lack of adjustments on offense. Terrible display by Mashed Potato Mike and Rodgers yesterday!

1. Start Starks

2. Janis up and Harris down on gameday. Janis is the far better returner. I know he's probably not ready to play a lot of snaps on O, but they can have a few plays to get in him the play and the flats and see if he can do something. The O lacks speed.

3. Similarly, maybe bring Myles White up to the roster?

4. Get the backs involved in the passing game. More screens yes, but also just using check downs. And whatever happened to having Cobb in the backfield? I'm not saying run him him more necessarily, but passing to him out of the backfield. I guess pass protection is an issue, but couldn't we do this a couple times a game? I remember this formation was actually successful against the niners in the 12 opener. Linebackers had to follow Cobb out of backfield and it opened up space behind them. It opened up a TD to Jones in that game. Anything to get Cobb going.

These are obvious observations and decisions that need to be made. Scrap the RB committee and ride the hot hand. Get back to the true west coast and take what the defense gives. Stop wishing for the big play. Short slants, crosses, RB screens. Janis over Harris on reutrns... There is no doubt in my mind that Tinkering Ted and the ever stubborn MAshed Potato Mike will "stay the course" and not even consider making these changes even though EVERYTHING ON TAPE INDICATES THEY SHOULD DO SO!!! You see it. I see it. They see it! Pride still wins... 8-8 at best unless they entertain some of said changes...SOMETHING! ANYTHING!

Exactly its not throwing in the towel on the season to want these changes. I for one do not understand the slow start when the last couple of years we have had the perfect reason to start the season off with a a renewed sense of urgency. So 3 games has shown that they need a kick in the ass. This stay the course approach is a recipe for disaster, and besides the play calling is the same old same old.

i want someone to go back and watch the tape more thoroughly than i just did but i didn't see a single play call where ANYONE was in motion before the snap (jordy kind of was on the last drive).

are you kidding me? how can you make it so easy to defend yourself. its the same 5 patterns over and over.

we don't make the defense think. they rush 4, know we won't throw down the middle and that Rodgers loves the 7 yard out.

Look - i love the no huddle - sometimes. its a nice change up to get a free 5 yards or confuse the defense. but do it too often and it looks like our own guys don't even know what the call is and it actually seems to make it easier for defenses to defend because we do nothing different before the snap.

This isn't a talent issue on offense. i actually think the O-line is doing a decent job. they are playing against some really good defenses. but for the love of God, you can't just line up and do the same thing every time and think its going to work.

watching Seattle's game winning drive was like watching an artist. Damn i would love Bevel to call our plays...

someone tell Mike he's allowed to run the jet sweep, or even fake it. that he's allowed to have his TE's and RB's shift and that motion provides momentum and puts DB's on their heels.

The offense will improve, especially once Bulaga gets healthy. The fact is, Detroit front 7 could be the best in the league, and Caldwell has them playing under control.

What's impressed me has been the way the Packers have been able to pressure the QB and control the run. If the offense gets back on track, GB is going to be tough to beat.
